Goodrich and Michelin may be foreign owned, but mostly tires sold in the US by those brands are made in the US. There is a plant 20 minutes from my house and they employ lots of our neighbors. I have ran both Michelin and BF Goodrich for years with no issues and long life.

Lonne,
Okay, okay - I didn't look to see you were a dealer in mostly off-shore owned tires. I apologize if it appeared to be a personal slight - certainly was NOT intended that way. I am, however, ardently pro-American and make no apologies for that.
Again,
Best Regards,
Jerry

I agree Jerry about being pro-American. I can stomach doing business with folks that at least employ a lot of Americans if they choose to do business here.

Well-put Greg, at least some of the money remains in this country.

Jerry, I applaud you for your pro-American stance, I too buy "Made in USA" whenever I can, unfortunately that is getting harder and harder to do. I never asked you to apologize for anything, you asked a question and I answered it.

Of the Bridgestone/Firestone tires in my warehouse;

Firestone - 99% Made in USA
1% Made in Canada

Bridgestone - 95% Made in USA
4% Made in Canada
1% Made in Japan

Lonnie,
As a long-term IBEW member, I consider anything manufactured/traded/exchanged with our neighbors to the North to be the same as domestic. I have been to a number of training classes, seminars, etc. with some Toronto "brothers" and consider the Canadians to be fair and equal trading pardners.
Just because a Toyota is "assembled" in an American plant doesn't make it American - so the parent company benefits - that's part of the deal and my point. Also, and obviously, re the Chinese made tires with American trademarks, their QC is somewhat lacking, to say the least.
What I was saying was that I did not intend to make the conversation of a personal nature. I have no other agenda here so I'll just get the Goodyears.
Regards,
Jer

I spoke with a BF Goodrich dealer yesterday about replacing my tires with the Commercial TA's. 245/75/16R range E. He said they would ride 1-2 inches lower than the missions that came on the camper. Does this sound right, and if so, is that a problem.

According to the tire chart at Discount tire a 235/85 is .63" larger in diameter so your rig would be about 3/16 of an inch lower

The Mission ST235/80R16 is 30.8 inches tall and 9.25 inches wide. The BFG Commercial T/A LT245/75R16 is 30.48 inches tall and 9.65 inches wide. The BFG is .32 inches shorter and .40 inches wider than the Mission. The BFG will lower your rig by .16 inches which will not even be noticeable.

We switched from the Missions last month to the BFG Commercials and the difference in height and width wasn't noticeable at all! The only difference we experience is about 1/2 inch less width between the tires and that much less expansion of the tire chocks required during set up.

. . . out of curiousity (izzat a word?) I just googled-up Bridgestone/Firestone and re-read the blatant cover-up attempts with the Ford explorer and other failures. whew. - Not on any of my vehicles - I have 8 vehicles counting the RV and they will NEVER see a tire from that group. I have no stock in (maybe in a mutual fund) any tire company so I have no vested interest in promoting any individual company, 'cept pro-American - so do the research and make your own decisions.

Just to raise the awareness level///caveat emptor///it's just open source data available to everyone who puts a lot of weight on their tires. Why do you ask?

Because it appears that you want to belabor this topic ad nauseam

The bottom line to this entire discussion is to buy tires NOT made in China.
