North to Alaska

This year's North to Alaska Session will be a co-hosted session. For this session, your co-hosts will be Astrid & Robin (of loneoak) and Daniel & Cande (of caniel).

Loneoak and caniel each have planned and traveled to Alaska and back. They started and returned to different places. Their routes going and returning weren't exactly the same. Their wanderings within Alaska and their experiences weren't the same. By co-hosting we are hoping we can provide a broader perspective and approach to planning and traveling to Alaska.

Below is a draft of the session agenda:
2:30 - 2:40 pm Welcome & Introductions
2:40 - 3:00 pm References & Planning
3:00 - 3:15 pm Trip Preparation
3:15 - 3:30 pm Routes, Stops/Sights
3:30 - 4:00 pm Open Discussion

After some show & telling (hopefully), a bit of talking, a touch of travel log, the floor will be opened for unanswered questions. Bring your questions. Bring your thoughts. We'll do our best to help.

Fresh Water Lures Used in Yukon

Part of driving the Alaska Highway lure for me was fishing my way north.

Every region has their favorite fishing flys and lures. Somewhere on our journey, in response to questions about nearby fishing I was given a list of suggested Fresh Water Lures Used in the Yukon. I would think these same lures should also work in northern British Columbia and Alberta.

Click on this link to get a copy of the list. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FSQ...ew?usp=sharing You will need a PDF viewer such as the one offered by Adobe to open the file.

When purchasing a British Columbia fishing license in Dawson Creek, I discovered US Citizens are considered as non-resident Alien. An 8-day Alien license ran $50.00 CAD. Knowing I'd be passing through British Columbia again I went with an Annual Alien license that ran $80.00 CAD

In the Yukon, US Citizens are considered garden variety non-residents. The Yukon offers a 6-day license for $20.00 CAD. Knowing I'd be in the Yukon more than 6 days total, I went with their Annual fishing license for $35.00 CAD. A very reasonable price I thought.

A fishing license may be purchased online or you can locate a license agent at these links.
Yukon: http://www.env.gov.yk.ca/environment-you/eServices.php
British Columbia: http://www.fishing.gov.bc.ca/
Alberta: https://mywildalberta.ca/buy-licence...e/default.aspx

I hope this information is useful for those who want to do a bit of fishing along the way.

Daniel

Our favorite presentation of the rally. Great Job. Any chance you could upload the slide show onto Google Docs for us too?

Robin and I had never met Cande and Daniel before the rally. We put this together over the internet. When we met them, we “clicked” right away and became friends. It was a great experience and a lot of fun.

Thanks for all of the information. My wife and couldn't make it to the rally, we were busy with the Auction and selling our house. we are now full time in our Montana 3731FL and are planning to spend next summer in Alaska (may-September). Your PPT is very helpful and the reference material for reading. Thank you!!!!!
I have so many question, but I have some time this winter to get them answered.

Thanks for the PowerPoint presentation and several links in these posts. We are planning to go to Alaska next June and return in the fall maybe Sept. it seems that there are several that are doing to same. Would anyone be interested in exchanging information as we all plan and perhaps itineraries ? Perhaps a separate topic link on this webpage would allow us to exchange info etc. Thoughts?

@R Berry and @Petmoose you are both welcome and thank you for your comments.

I know there are some folks in the early stages of planning 2020 Alaska trip. May want to keep watch for this thread when it appears.

At the rally, I believe I heard of a couple rigs talking of a possible Alaska 2019 trip. So starting a new thread in the main forum area may be a good idea.

Earlier this year (2018) my wife and I were planning to return to Alaska in 2019. Now we are not sure that will happen. I'll keep watch for your thread and chime in if it turns out that we are able to make a 2019 Alaska trip. If we can't we will have to wait till 2020.

Enjoy the Journey.
Daniel
