I grew up in Florida and most of my family is still there. As far as I'm concerned, it's hot all the time. But, truthfully, late May is getting pretty darn warm. You'll need a/c if you are at all hot-natured. I spoke to my dad the other night and he lives in Central Florida. It was in the 80's. Clearwater is absolutely beautiful. One of my brothers used to live there. Enjoy yourself!

Their are no places on the beach that I know of except Ft. Desoto, which is a Pinellas County Park. Weather will be in the mid 70's at night and upper 80's or low 90's during the day with probable afternoon thunderstorms.

Craigs right, the only campsite is Ft. Desoto. Word of caution regarding Ft. Desoto...look up before backing in!!!! Some of the tree limbs stick out over the campsite and 12' 6" won't go under them. Tape measure proved it before I backed into a campsite.
Ft. Desoto is beautiful and the campground will be great in May. Enjoy.

I'll second those words and here's a Link to Ft Desoto.
Should note that being on the beach you should get some cooling breezes. Add the breezes to the shade of the trees in the campground it will be doable.
It was a policy where as only countiy redidents could make a reservation and that reservation had to be made in person. That policy has been suspended any anyone can make a reservation by phone or online.

There are a lot of RV campgrounds in Florida on the water, Panhandle, East and West coast. Check the camping book. Reference the end of May, It is starting to get hot (not warm) HOT. This is why people, who come here for the winter, leave around the middle or third week in April. Florida is beautiful, even in the summer. The only thing in May, YOU DEFINITELY NEED AIR CONDITIONING. Hope you enjoy our state.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the low hanging limbs. I will NOT take my rig into Ft. DeSoto anymore because of the narrow roads and the obstacle course it takes to swerve around the low hanging limbs to get in there.

Your right Glen you can make reservations by phone at Ft. Desoto. But Pinellas county residents get to make reservations one month further out that others do.
