Landing gear fuse
I just puchased a Keystone Alpine and my front landing gear in line fuse keeps on popping. I need to raise the front legs 20 inches to make the unit level so I can leave the fridge running. I never had a problem with my previous 5th wheel. When I am just taking the 5er off the truck hitch the fuse pops. Any suggestions?

I believe Lippert recommends replacing the fuse with a 50A circuit breaker. If you have blade fuses most automotive stores carry units that will plug into the fuse holder. If it's a cartridge style you will have to wire it in place of the existing fuse holder.

If new and in warranty, I would let the dealer make any changes. If you do it, and the motor burns up, I can imagine what they (Keystone) will say. Seems I recall some units coming from the assembly line with 30amp fuses, while some had 40 amp fuses.

Dealer changed mine to 40 amp and I haven't blown another fuse. I not a fan of increasing fuse size and would be afraid of putting in a 50 amp. I was concerned with the 40 amp install but everything seems fine.

Until you up the amps, consider getting some wood blocks under the legs which should reduce the overall height you have to raise the legs.

We had the same problem with our 3400 and we were on an extended trip. Called Keystone and they shipped the parts needed to a dealer that we were going to be at the next week. Installed a parallel fused line to the motor and it has worked fine ever since.

We have a member of the Forum who used to work for Lippert, the maker of the frames, who has indicated that the circuit for the landing legs can easily handle the higher amperage fuses. But like SlickWillie indicated I'd have the dealer make any changes if it is still under warranty. It is your unit so do what makes you feel safe. Good luck.

Different models may have different motors and different requirements, the advice of asking the dealer's service department is a sound one. Don't ever just jump to a larger fuse/breaker without knowing the load amperage requirements of that device. Just think of your home, you wouldn't change a 20 amp breaker in your breaker box with a 30 amp breaker. There may be a reason the legs' motor is blowing the fuse. it sounds like it is a different problem that we all have had, yours pops even when lifting off the truck. My money is on a loose wire somewhere.

Here is the breaker you will need, (my size) the other package is just to show the fuse physical size, the small amp.size is for something else.

Great advice here from many who have had similar experiences, and I too recommend you notify your dealer first before making any fuse adjustments. I believe the landing gear can be raised so high and blown fuse will continue to occur if past the high mark.

Ozz, I've had a second motor added to the second leg but it has a mini 30 amp fuse,do you know if they make a reset breaker fuse for that size?

Mine uses mini-fuses as well. Waiting to hear the fix for them as well.

Yessir, the picture I posted, or tried to post, is a 30 amp. It is the one I have, the part number is on it.

Tim, just change the fuse holder, you can get them at the auto-parts store where the breakers are.
