Could it be the regulator for your Propane tank on that side.

No, because the propane regulator is more of a hissing sound and this sounds more like a motorized clicking sound coming from the front compartment, We heard it in the middle of the night below our bed. with nothing running.

With slide problems, I always check the fluid resevoir first. The resevoir has two marks on its sides, one each for the level with slides in/out.

Once in a while we hear something from that compartment but it's our inverter. Do you have anything else in the compartment where the pump is?

The converter on the 3585SA should be under the stairs or at least it is on mine. I didn't know there was an inverter also installed in the units. My propane regulator/cross over valve makes a strange pop-wop sound when I have a propane appliance on. You might try pulling fuses one at a time to narrow it down to a particular circuit if you thing it is electrical. Others may have some ideas on the hydraulic system.

I'm kinda curious about Lawman's comments on marks for the reservoir. My 2006 3500RL had no such marks. I had to put them there myself.

Oh well, sorry to go off topic.

Just to clear things up a bit, I have a 2000 watt INVERTER installed so we can have 110 VAC when dry camping. Sometimes people mistakenly say "inverter" when they mean "converter." But not this time; I was really meaning "inverter."

According to Lippert the lines on the reservoir label are just that- lines. They indicate nothing but are confusing.

Thanks for the replys. I bought the rig new and did not have an inverter installed so it must not be that. and I don't think it's the propane because it happens at night with no appliances running. It sounds more like an electrical humming,if that makes sense.

How about the converter that every Montana has? They will sometimes hum, especially under heavy load.

I think the converter is under the stairs but this sound is under the bed. we heard it again early am ,so I don't think there was much of a load.

I am confused on my 3685sa I have what I thought was a Iota 75 Converter (battery charger)at least that is what it says on it.Do I also have an invertor in this unit and if yes where is it? I need to know the difference.

Thanks Steve

All Montana's come with a converter and the IOTA model is one that Montana has used for years.

Unless you or a prior owner added it, Montana's do *NOT* come with an Inverter. If one has been added, there should be some really big battery cables going from the battery box to it. Typically Inverters are located near the batteries preferably in a separate compartment.

A converter takes 120V AC electricity and converts it to 12v DC. This 12V output will charge the batteries, power the 12V lights, run the squirrel cage blower in the heater, power the circuit board in the refrigerator, power some of the sensors (propane), etc.

An inverter takes 12V DC and transforms it into 120V AC. They are typically used in situations where you don't have a supply of 120V AC power (no hook ups when boon docking and no generator) and want to utilize 120V devices (TV, electric coffee pot, hair dryer, etc.).

Carl, Great explanation to often misunderstood subject. Should add total clarity to those with questions. Thanks for your efforts. Jim

When we picked up our Montana it sounded like a clock (tic tic) Service people tracked it down to the propane regulator, only did it on one side. New regulator and the all is quiet. FYI the only thing running was the fridge.
