Locked out!

I came back to the trailer yesterday and the deadbolt would not move. The key turned back and forth but wouldn't open the lock. Fortunately I had left the back emergency window partially open. I climbed in but it wouldn't unlock from the inside either. I got a phillips screwdriver and took the lock off. Even that wasn't easy, as it didn't like to fit out thru the opening. Finally got it. I am pretty sure the little metal rod with short bends on the ends had fallen off, but as parts kind of fell everywhere, I am not sure.
Put it back together and it works again but I am sure nervous! Any suggestions? I searched for recalls, but those seemed to be for bad cylinders. HELP!

Had the same thing happen to us several years ago. But we were inside and could not get out. Fortunately I had some basic tools inside. Took it apart, cleaned and lubed it, put it back together tightening everything well, and no more problem in years.

This used to happen when the screws came loose inside. There was a lock recall some time back, however, and you might have one of those.

My deadbolt got jammed against the wall board and I had to have a locksmith get me into the trailer. I ordered a new lock from an online RV lock source and installed it myself, first drilling a larger hole behind the deadbolt. Replacing a lockset is a 15 minutes job, getting into a locked trailer is a pain.

Having a 2013 I wonder if yours wasn't on the recall from a year or so ago. My 2014 was. It only took me about 8 months to get the replacement parts too!

Don't replace via a RV store. Inside the door lock there is a phone number, if I remember correctly for Fastec. They will ship directly to you at a significantly less cost, and give you a choice of black, white, or chrome.
