Fiberglass Repair
Agh! Although we thought we were ok, we finally discovered that our front cap does not clear the toolbox when the ground is uneaven . So we have dinged it up on both sides. Is there an easy way to fix or should I see if the dealer can do it? Seems to be cosmetic only, but I’m not an expert. Take a look at the pictures and let us know what you think.

If you have one in your area, talk to someone who repairs boats.

Ether a boat shop or talk to some one who does Fiberglas repairs. that's a little more than cosmetic to me.

Few dealers are equipped to do bodywork … like said find a body shop that deals in fiberglass repair as it looks as if you are past the gelcoat and down into the fiberglass matting. Think about getting a flush mount tool box as well. Tractor Supply, Atwoods, Orschlens all carry them.

Bet a dealer would simply charge you for a total cap replacement.

I would find an RV repair shop (not a dealer) skilled in fiberglass repairs. I did major damage to my rear cap last year. Found a RV repair shop by searching the web with very good reviews. Rear cap looks better than new now.

Good advice. I’m in a remote area right now and won’t reach “civilization” ‘til the end of the month. I can see some fiber on one side, the other just looks scratched.
Should I cover the damage with something until I can get it in the shop?

I've done fiberglass repair. So long as the damage does not go all the way through and not cracked, you should be ok. What you don't want is for water to seep through the damaged area. If it's cracked, I would use Gorilla tape to to ensure water won't get in. May be ugly, but internal water damage ensures that the end cap will need to be removed.

Not trying to beat up on you Wally Dad but there is no way I would have let the camper hit more that once. I would have noticed that it did and corrected the situation at once, even if I had to remove the tool box.
Another reason why I will never own a short bed truck. ( witch I assume you have)

Matching the old aged gelcoat color is the hard thing in this repair. Leave it to a shop that has the most expertise in this area, which is usually a marine repair facility because boaters are always in contact with docks, pilings, etc.

You assume incorrectly! My F350 DRW is a long bed. I also had never hit the rail or toolbox before. In fact , it cleared it.!
We’ve been full/-time since January This happened because there was very little space to maneuver and we were on very uneaven ground. We hadn’t encountered this before. We were busy watching the rear clearance of the trailer and the front of the truck and didn’t see the problem until it was too late. Lesson learned.
Glad you’re so perfect and won’t ever make a mistake!

I had just adjusted ours for 6" clearance from rail of truck to bottom of camper. No tool box but was watching camper while backing in and same thing. Never saw how close it was until it would have been too late. If I hadn't added that extra inch I would have been saying more than wow that was close. For us noobies it is easy enough to make a whoops and an awe shucks

A decent mobile boat repair guy will fix that to where it will never be noticed. Probably less expensive than an RV shop too.

I'd probably fix it myself, if it isn't cracked, but that's just me. Lots of how-to videos on youtube.

I'm too cheap to have mine fixed properly. Similar ding. Covered and smoothed with silicone and spray painted with close enough color. Held for about 2 years so far. Barely noticable.

Can't imagine the front of my montana ever being able to get near Mt toolbox, but my bed is 8 feet and my toolbox is below the rails of the bed as I did not one that sat on the rails. Good luck on getting it fixed.
