Torq 'n Go Lug Nuts
I changed out my lug nuts with the Torq 'n Go lug nuts this morning. They were $17.00 an 8-pack plus shipping. For me, I only needed three packs (24) and the shipping was $15.58. I purchased them online from Trailer Parts SuperStore. Part #5331180

On edit, corrected part #.

Orv, these are a lot cheaper than Mcgards, previously cited on MOC...what do you think about their (Torq 'n Go) quality???

I feel they are as good quality as any standard lug nut. As for rusting, I don't know. My original lug nuts never rusted, but then we've not had the rig in northern states in the winter time where the salt has a chance to get to them.

Our fifth wheel arrived at the dealership OOA 28 Nov and we towed it away two days latter. We have had it now for just over seven months and are already seeing signs of rust on the lug nuts...although, that could be my fault since I check torque VERY frequently! Orv, I for one would like to hear how your Torq 'n Gos hold up over time...maybe you could post an update in six months, or so, and let us know how they are holding up?

Orv, in looking at the site, I'm confused (doesn't take much, I know). The page shows an open end lug nut and a closed end lug nut that doesn't look long enough to cover the studs. When they come can you fill us in on what they are like? I like the idea, but I also want the studs to be completely covered as we live in the rust capital of the world.

Tom, I bought the closed-end lug nuts. They look like the original lug nuts, the same physical size, except for being 2-piece. The bottom part slips over the lug and seats the same way the original lug nuts did. The only difference is that the nut itself tightens down on the bottom part rather than the wheel. Dexter feels this gives you a much more positive torq action since the wheel does not physically touch the nut. I'll let you know if they in fact do not need re-torqing after traveling a 100 miles or so. As a matter of fact, I'll check the torq after 100 miles, 200 miles, and 300 miles. If they don't need to be torqed again then I would say they were okay.
The open end ones are just that. It's like the lugs on your truck, open.

Thanks Orv! My only concern was if they were long enough. I should have known that Dexter would have thought about that, but hey, you never know!!

I've now traveled 600 miles with the new Torque 'N Go lugnuts and I'm favorably impressed. The aluminum wheels stayed torqued from the beginning, but I had to retorque a couple on my steel wheels after 200 miles. However, the lugnuts on the steel wheels remained properly torqued after the next 600.
Dexter has asked me to stop by in Elkhart when we go through in two weeks on our way to Midland, Michigan. They want to check the "crushing" that the lugnuts my have done to the steel wheels. I'll give another update then.

Orv, thanks for posting this information. I am interested in your continuing reports on this.
Our OEM lugnuts have rusted. I think when they're removed and reinstalled the sharp edges of the hexagon gets galled and bare metal must protrude through the very thin plating and that's what rusts. I think that's what is happening, anyhow.
So, my question is... have you noticed any bare metal or even any galling of the surface from mounting the lugnuts?
Thanks, Orv. I'm still hoping to get to meet you one of these days.

Steve, I think it will take some time before the nuts will show any wear. They've only been on the rig for a month and a half and about 700 miles. I think it would be more telling if we were going to be in snow country during the winter but I don't expect that. The original nuts on the rig never showed much wear, no rust either. But I think there too it was probably because the rig only saw snow once and that was this Spring coming through the Vail, CO pass.
I'll continue to give reports as to their value for the money.

Hey Orv, I'm extending a standing invitation for you and the Mrs' to come to Rust Country, USA - also known as Michigan in the Winter, if you'd like to see how those hold up to road salt! Yesterday was maintenance day, where I checked and adjusted brakes, checked the wheel bearings, lubed the wet bolts, and checked the U-bolts. I wish I could check out yours because I'd really like to replace ours.

Thanks Tom. I know what Michigan is like in the winter. Lived in the UP from '43 to '51 when I enlisted in the AF. Then I spent three years at Selfridge AFB (Mt. Clemens, MI) amd twp years in Sault St. Marie. So I have a pretty good handle on what the rust can do. I wouldn't deliberately go there in the winter time unless it was a church calling.
