Well folks, my current project has been rather slow, due to the high temperatures around here in Kansas City. The weather is milder now, so I started wiring and installing my Generator and inverter wiring.
I swapped out my old 1500 Watt inverter, I took off our previous TT, with a new 3,000 Watt inverter I had in the shop. My battery power will be limited, as I will install Two 6 Volt batteries. We will have around 180 to 200 Amp Hours of power available. I have 4, but will probably only use Two. I will be able to run a 100 Watt load for around 15 hours or so, and still have some 'Juice'' left. A microwave for 15 minutes would consume around 25 Amp hours.
Anyway, I got the Inverter installed, (A cheap inverter only, not a good charger inverter) Wired it through a Two pole switch, to break both the neutral and hot side, into a junction box where I split off and ran a 30 amp. pigtail to the battery compartment where I will plug in a generator, or later on a Twinned set of 2000, Honda's.
I took the main feed wire up into the W/D closet and mounted a 50 Amp. automatic transfer switch. This switch will sense which of the Three power supplies, (or Two power supplies from the Generator and/or inverter) is hot, and engage the 50 Amp contactor, so we will have electricity. I did it this way, so we could use any outlet or appliance in the Monty. We would not be able to use the 220 Volt dryer, or any load exceeding the inverter-battery combination, or the generator's capacity. I keep a chart showing each load's current draw to manage the power consumption, so we have to monitor it. I also have a digital amp. gauge that shows the current draw from the batteries.
I sized the wiring to accommodate a 30 amp generator power supply, but probably will not have that big of a generator.
I hope my explanation wasn't too nerdy.
I still have to test, and charge the batteries, hook them up, and wire the 12 volt battery wiring, with it's fuse, and disconnect switch. (A Perko 250 Amp rotary selector switch.)
