IH35 construction in Waco TX

First the good news - IH35 thru Temple Tx is virtually complete. Very nice! It was a long four years.

Six miles thru Waco look like a war zone, and will probably be that way for the next couple of years. Last Friday traffic was terribly backed up in both directions. We took a different route going home on Sunday. They are adding 2 lanes to both sides and rebuilding all the bridges and the work is scheduled to be complete in 4 years.

If you plan to travel IH35 take the loop and go around the east side of Waco to avoid the mess.

That is good news! We will be heading to Kingsland in mid October for a big golf outing. Normally we take 31 west to the 340 loop south and catch I35 south of Waco.

Just went through there the other day. I have to say I do NOT like how Tx does lane shifts. Most places post signs well in advance. Most places paint lines indicating the lane change. We saw in Dallas I35w and Waco that they use cats eyes vice painting lines. Difficult to see if you are not expecting it. Almost swapped paint with an 18 wheeler.
On the other hand it was nice to visit Chip and Joann Gains neighborhood. Been fans for many years. Really enjoyed visiting.

Thanks for the heads up. Saw them starting that area last November. We have been traveling I-35 from north of Dallas to 29 at Georgetown several times a year to/from our hunting cabin since 1969. 50 years and never a year was there no construction on some portion of it.

I can say that MOST of that stretch is great compared to 10-15 years ago. Places that were rough 4 lane (2 each way) are now great 6 or even 8 lane. Not too much left to be done. Probably finish about the time I am no longer able to roam around the woods.
