2017 Ford SuperDuty

Well I had a Saturday with not a whole lot planned. So I took the dear wife over to the RV dealership and looked at a 39 foot DRV Mobile Suites, it was very nice. Also it is very expensive. I guess part of the cost would be 17 1/2 inch rims the disk brakes, independent suspension and 3 1/4 inch thick walls because it is a wide body and all of the rest of the amenities.

This brings me to the next stop on our little trip. The local Ford dealer to schedule an oil change for the old 2000 Super Duty 7.3. While there I picked up some brochures for the new 2017 Super Duty. As I was leaving the showroom I met a sales manager who asked if I had saw the new Super Dutys yet? Ended up going for a quick test drive in a short bed F350 CC 4X4. I can say it was a nice ride, especially compared to my old technology. The power is really smooth and you didn't realize just how quickly your speed jumps up. It was rated for 11,500 GVW. The 5th wheel rating was from 16,500 to 21,500. Not sure what this one actually was good for.
I was impressed but I would guess I could get in any of the new rigs and be impressed. Time will tell.

I made the mistake in July 2012 of drifting out to the new truck lot when I had my 2007 F350 in for an oil change. Ended up buying a new 2012 F350 shortly afterward.

There is an article in this month's Trailer Life on the 2017 Superduty talking about all the new technology gizmos and towing power.

The new ones are very nice but my old 2000 only has 96k on the odometer and has been paid off for twelve or thirteen years. Lynwood I can relate as my truck still works pretty well. John that is my wife's worry also, new truck now and than I might want another when I retire in four years. Bill one of the guys who worked for me did that exact same thing, he was getting the oil changed at the Toyota dealership and ended up,buying a brand new one.

I might not wait four years before I buy one but I will probably wait at least until 2018 to see how the Ford is doing with their new model and I will also check out the rest of the brands. I really wish that ford would beef up the running gear and put 19.5 rims on the rig and up the GVW on the SRW to 12,500/13,500. That would be my truck, way more GVW with out going to a dually. The dually was good for 6,850/7,630 payload and 16,600/27,500 Fifthwheel tow rating, impressive to say the least. I will say I liked the long bed trucks fuel tank, 48 gallons and I think the DEF tank is now at 7.4 gallons.

It's nice to see others in the same boat as me. Our '06 only has 64k on it and I think everything that could go wrong do to age has done so. Only issue now is one front tire that is either out of round or lost a balance weight and I've got to fix that before next year's big trip (10+ weeks planned, coast to coast again).

I hope Ford is not counting on me to survive as I plan to be in my 2012 F-350 for a LONG time. Only 41,000 miles.

Got you beat, 36k on our 2011. Since I had to replace the entire fuel system (my fault) will be keeping it a long long time.

You fellows must really baby your Trucks, I've already got 97K on my '11 and 85 to 90% of that mileage is towing.

There was a 17 F-350 Dually, diesel at my Ford Deader when I was there a couple of days ago.One look at the price tag was enough for me even with my Ford Friends and family discount it was way above my pay grade. My 2008 just tuned 80K miles most all of it towing a Montana and it is going t o be around for awhile.

Rich I also had some sticker shock but I looked and saw that you can spend less if you don't need the very top of the line. I bought my truck in December of 99 if I remember correctly so I think if I divide the cost per year it doesn't make me feel so bad. I will probably have my next truck until I die or can't use it anymore so I will probably try and go at least Lariat and add a few options. There again I have a large sum in a CD waiting for the right time to purchase a new truck and I hope to still get some money out of my old truck with the low miles and how good of shape it is in. The main thing that I want is more relaxed towing and I think a new TV will help on that aspect. Having a quiet and powerful truck would be nice not to mention the better braking.

Watch the new car dealer ads. Around here they often offer Superdutys with significant discounts off MSRP. When I bought my 2012 F350 King Ranch a local dealer was advertising $14,000 off sticker on ANY Superduty. That was considerably below invoice. That was in July 2012 at end of model year. And other dealers were willing to match it. Bought from a dealer that had exactly what I wanted. That makes the price a little easier to take. May take a while for those deep discounts on the 2017s.

There is dealer invoice then there is cost to the dealer. We also had a saving plan to purchase our trucks and Montana's we had cash for our first truck and Montana and nearly cash for our 2nd truck and Montana. We no longer have that cash flow and we are at about at the end of our RV experience.

I just read in Trailer Life the GCWR is 40,000 and goose neck trailer weight is 32,000 pounds and fifth wheel is 27,500 pounds.
I like the truck but come on does that sound safe at any speed let alone interstate speeds. How long will it be until they claim GCWR of the semis.

Wow guys...you keep your miles down somehow. I will hit 100,000 miles on my 2013 GMC Duramax shortly. I do use it as a daily driver...about 20 miles each way and do a fair amount of 400 to 1000 mile trips.

I'm thinking if I take care of it, I might get 500k miles out of it. Wishful thinking I guess.

Wishful thinking, I don't think so. I have a friend who put 700,000 miles on a 350 Chevy pickup before he changed the engine. It has 1,000,010 on it now and is setting in his garage.

Our 2008 Ford only moves when the Montana is behind it. I will run it to the store a couple of times a month when we are not towing. It is a tow vehicle only.

I only have 41,000 on my 2012 and it is a daily driver. But being retired, I don't drive that much any more. If I were still working it would have over 100,000.
