Colorado in 2009
With the high cost of fuel, we are planning to go to cooler Colorado to escape some of the Texas heat. We are thinking we would like to stay in one place for a month and pay the much cheaper monthly rates. We want an area with a lot of recreation, trees, mountains, etc. Any suggestions for parks and locations will be appreciated. Of course we want our Monty to be happy with level sites and full hookups. Hopefully the site is large enough that the slides don't touch your neighbor.

Hey, we're in Rockport too and would love to go back to Colorado. Spent a week there last September in Colorado Springs at the Garden of the Gods campground. We loved that park - great people, many amenities, great location, etc. Very very nice park = think you'd like it!

There are campgrounds like you describe in nearly every town along the front range and western slope - hundreds. Might be better if you describe a little more about what you would like to do. "Recreation" to some folks is playing tennis, to others fishing a river, and yet to others just sitting around drinking beer.

There are so many good possibilities, it's hard to know where to begin. So I will just give one reference in this post:

To answer your questions about what we like to do: Since we will be in one spot we would like to be in driving distance of interesting sites & places to visit. We enjoy watching wildlife, birdwatching, riding our bikes, walking, enjoying the scenery, shopping, and of course eating.

We have spent a month at Alpen Rose campground in Durango. We were parked under the trees in the older portion of the campground. Really enjoyed our stay. Animas River has a lot of rafting adventures, kayaking and fly fishing. Enjoyed downtown with its shops and dining opportunities. Ride the Durango/Silverton Railroad, it passes within sight of campground. Lots of bicyles are riden on the road just behind the campground. Drive over the Mesa Verde and explore the ruins. Drive up to Silverton and over to Ouray on the Million Dollar Highway. WOW!!(don't tow your rig over the Million Dollar Highway). Rent a jeep and take in some of the old mountain roads. WOW!! There is a glider airport next to the highway to the campground and you can go up in a glider. Elk also congregate on the runway from time to time. Campground is clean, patio breakfast served each morning, very clean and spacious bath house, laundry and store. Check it out, we had a fantastic month (Aug/Sep) in Durango.

I hesitate to let the secret out, but this is one of my favorite areas - and a reasonable RV park to boot -
http://www.mountainviewsrv.com/rvresort.htm
It is in Southpark, which is also by Durango, Pagosa Springs, and all those southwest areas of Colorado. The town is Creede which is kinda fun in itself, and Lake City is a short drive away and its always a party there. You can 4 wheel over to Ouray in your TV if you don't mind getting it a little dirty.
Altitude is about 8,500 ft. The facilities are wonderful, but the sites are not paved if that's what you are used to.
Here are some pics of our stay last fall - Creede 2008
