Adjusting Slide Toppers?

I have noticed that a one of the slipe toppers sags a little, especially when it rains as it collects water and was wondering if the toppers can be adjusted? I noticed looking up at the one side there is an arm and a couple of screws and was hoping these are set screws on the topper drum/ cylinder which would allow the topper to be tightened.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks,

Les

We have the main slide topper that sags. Although it is a nuisance it still does the job it was intended to do. I’ve been told that they can be adjusted; however, with the topper adjusted where it pulls the sags out of it, it may be inclined to pull against the top of the slide when it’s being opened or closed. I don’t know if that would cause a problem or not.

They are adjustable, similiar to the awning, but get instructions from the manufacturer before doing yourself.

Les ... I'm thinking the arm you are referring to is the anti-billowing arm that keeps the topper from becoming a big sail while traveling down the highway. It has nothing to do with topper tension. Like mentioned, you can search for your particulat brand's tech info on the web. A&E and Carefree of Colorado are two of the most popular. It will involve disconnecting one end of the roller tube, inserting a cotter pin in provided holes to hold the spring, winding the bracket a turn or two more, the reassembly. That being said ... you'll always have a bit of sag during rain storms ... that's just the way they work. I've seen too much tension on the toppers resulting in the slideout almost to the point of jambing as they try and move in and out. The spring is stout ... use CAUTION!

Thanks to all for the advise. I will do some research on the mfg to see their procedures, certainly don't want to turn this into a Bugs Bunny cartoon with springs and such flying all over if I let something loose that should not have been.

A partially inflated beach ball in the middle of the big slide topper will prevent the rain from pooling. Ray Charles can see a way to install and remove the B-ball but some of my MOC friends have turned it into a science project. Easy way for you is best.

When putting any kind of support under a slide topper, be careful that the support barely touches to avoid stretching the awning material.

I complained about sagging slide cover on front slide(I think it may have stretched due to high winds 5 days straight while we at the Gulf). Dealer rep. said no adjustment could be made that wouldn't cause more problems(pulling from or tearing of cover at mounting due to additional pressure applied to take up springs) and Dometic refuse to replace even though our unit is less than 5 months old. I guess I will go back to Carefree when this one wears out.
