EZ lube or not ?

Hi all, We bought a 2014 HC new in 2013. I have used the EZ lube fittings atleast once a year. Is this enough to maintain the bearings? at what point do you remove the drum to repack the bearings?

Thanks
Chris

I remove and check brakes once a year, that is the time I pull the hubs. BTW I never use the EZ-Lube. I hand pack only. I am one who has had grease go past the seal and destroy the break shoes.

A very lively topic indeed. And been a while since last brought up. But here is a recent discussion about them.

If you have never had the drums off, how are the brakes? Also, when greasing using the EZ Lube system, how much grease are you installing each time? If you have used it every year, do you apply enough grease to push out all of the old grease each time?

You can use them no question. Most of the time they work just fine if you go by the directions. Even then sometimes a wheel seal will leak and get grease on the brakes. Grease on break shoes don’t work so well. They will last forever but don’t stop very well.

We have a 2011 and have used the EZ lube every year. Lift tires off the ground with leveling jacks, hand pump grease, spin tires, clean out old grease until I see new grease. One thing I did find interesting is that when I went to a Montana dealer, several dealers and locations, and asked for seals they ALL gave the ones that they use and they are very different than those from the many. They were clearly less quality with a rear seal that was flimsy and with any grease pressure at all would allow grease to leak out. The manf direct ones have a heavier rubber and a spring that keeps it tight . When I have the bearing repacked last year everything was well greased, bearing were in great shape, and no leaks.
