Help... Montana is listing to one side
This is the wife.
I just moved the Montana out of storage and drove it about 1/4 mile to where I can set it up and wash it to get it ready for our trip next week.
I have noticed that while on level ground, the Montana is listing to one side, and it's quite a list.
Tires are fine. I crawled under it and took a look but don't see a bent axle or anything that looks out of order with springs etc.
One thing I thought of is that the husband jacked up each side (One side at a time of course) last week and checked/adjusted the brakes. I didn't pay attention to where he placed the jacks.
I just took it for about a 3 or 4 mile drive to see if anything would 'right itself' after being jacked up last week but it's still listing to the side.
Any thoughts on why the Montana is listing towards the entry door side?
I did a search here already looking to see if someone else has posted about a listing problem but haven't found any posts on this so far.
My husband won't be here for a couple of hours to check this out so if someone can maybe give me an idea of what to be centering my attention on /fixing it if I can, or running to get parts if I find something broken.
Thanks, I appreciate it.
Margee.

Check out the leaf springs and shackels holding springs. You may have a broken leaf spring.

Margee,
I agree with Larry and Roma.... It most likely is the leaf spring and or the shackles. Please keep us what you find out. Dennis

I did check out the leaf springs and shackles holding the springs but didn't see anything obviously wrong/cracked. We replaced our shackles with heavy-duty shackles a few years back. Good thing too because once we had the old shackles off, we could see what terrible condition they were in.
For being 13 years old, our Montana really doesn't have many miles on it since we are limited to weekend/holiday weekend travels. Probably less than 10,000 miles at this point.

I'll crawl under there again and look. If a leaf spring is cracked/broken, would it be more obvious if I jack up the Montana? If so.... I know there's definite opinions on where to place jacks?

Don't know if you have the Morride rubber suspension equalizer or not. One failed on mine giving the trailer a substantial list. Otherwise i'd consider getting the springs replaced if you find no other causes.

We don't have the Morride suspension. I just took a closer look at the springs and can't see anything that grabs my attention.

I maybe figured it out. He said last week when we were checking brakes and doing a few other maintenance things that it desperately needed lubing and he was going to do it this weekend. So I started lubing the zerts (or whatever they are called) while I was down under the Montana this last time. Maybe when he jacked it up last weekend that the shackle/leaf spring areas are really dry and something got tweaked and didn't go back into position because it was so dry?
I know just enough to be dangerous.
So off I go to pull it on some bumpy roads to see if it gets itself back into position. I know I probably didn't grease enough spots but I did grease every place I found a zert and then places that looked like they should be greased.
I'm getting too old to be crawling under the Montana.
I'll be back.

It's certainly not listing as bad now after lubing things and my drive with it. But I think I'm done messing with it and will wait for my husband to get here and and he can crawl under there.
Thanks for the suggestions.

If you get really desperate, we are in Yuba City for a few days before heading to Shasta, so if you need help, let me know. If it has a broken spring, it's not that hard to pull a spring pack off and get it into a spring shop in Sacramento for repair.

No problem. We have no pets, no kids, so spare bed in livingroom is empty. It would be neat to caravan up there with others, would make quite a showing. And besides, we are returning to Yuba City after the rally to go to the Toby Keith concert in Wheatland on the 1st of June.

We are meeting another rally participant at 5am in the Costco parking lot in Woodland. It's located right next to I-5 at the Road 102 exit. That puts us at the Rolling Hills casino about 15 minutes before the buffet breakfast opens. We usually get fuel there also as it's an easy in & out.

That's a bit early for us, we are retired, so anything before 7AM, unless it's an emergency, is too early . We'll be along after that, guessing we will be there early afternoon. We will be on the lookout for broken down Montana' s on the way up.

Cool! It's good to know we'll have a Montana SAG Wagon coming along to pick up the pieces.

We had the same problem. One of the leaf springs was flat. Make sure they all look like they have a curve go them.

Thought I should end this thread with an update.
Never found any reason why the rig would be leaning to one side. It 'righted' itself after a short bumpy drive here in town a few days before we went on a 420 mile round-trip.
Still going with the train-of-thought that something was tweaked when it was jacked up to inspect brakes.
