Most of us have tow vehicles with keyless entry fobs. Keep your keys next to the bed when you're sleeping. If someone tries to get in or is frightening you hit the panic button setting off your horn and flashing your lights. Most people bent on mischief won't stick around in that racket.

On edit;
This works at home too.

3 or 4 thousand heads are sure better than one..Sweetfire that is so simple and so effective. The last thing a bad guy wants is to draw attention to what he is about to do.That will now be our primary burglar alarm..

That method (the alarm on the truck) also works if you find yourself LOCKED INTO your rig! (bet you can figure out how we know that, eh???)

Dennis, Great idea. And we know it works from inside the Monty because we've done it by accident several times.

Well, as much as I would like to take credit for this idea I have to admit it came to me several weeks ago in an e-mail from a friend who go it from a friend, etc. But it is so simple an idea it is hard to see how we all over looked it. At the very least it is a non-aggressive first step.

I am enjoying all the batter on this subject, HOWEVER, may I inject another question?

What would the thread and headlines be reading IF this family had not had the shotgun in the rv?

"Family of four found dead in moho in Walmart parking lot, female members sexually molested, family dog killed, empty pepper spray can found, warning sign off door found in bedroom, truck lights flashing and siren sounding on rv, father fought gallantry but was overcome by intruder."
No suspects at this time but police feel drugs and alcohol are involved. Family of slain are greeving and wonder WHY?????????

As I said; a first step, my second and third steps are not as socially acceptable in some circles.

Dave, we have yet to encounter any situation where we felt threatened or endangered. It could happen, but hasn't yet. We'll keep Sweetfire's suggestion in mind. It's a good one. Meanwhile, Dave, just hit the road when you are ready. And, most of all, enjoy the journey to and from the rally as well as the rally itself. There is so much to see and so much beauty in this country. The journey can be as enjoyable as the destination.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

I have to say that also.We have traveled thousands of miles in a RV without incident, also traveled around the country staying in Hotels, Motels for several years without incident. The probability of anything bad happening to you personally are astronomical..however ..bad things happen to folks personally every hour of every day..It does not hurt to be prepared.

As usual, you all have brought up some great solutions!! Some ideas we would never have thought of. I would never say under some circumstances that we would not stay at a rest area or a Wal*Mart because one should never say never. If the situation comes up and we feel it's reasonable safe, we now will be armed with some very good deterents. We could also use some of these when staying in a campground. Anything can happen any time, any place, day or night. It is a rare occurance when something like this happens, but it does pay to be prepared.

Carol,

Thanks to you the word, "thingy" is now a part of the Montana vocabulary!!! I feel perfectly comfortable using that word when I don't know what else to call something and Al is not here to ask!

We already had "thingy" in our lexicon from our discussion quite awhile back about that "thingy" in the tipout drawers in the kitchen, the one that turned out to be for storing rings while doing dishes. So "thingy" will have to have two definitions in the MOC dictionary.

I am really looking forward to hitting the open road as the journey begins to the rally. As I said before, if I do not make it to the rally you will probably know where to find me. =) See yall there!
