Cris, we tried Yukon Rib the second day we were here. It had the best fish and chips we have ever tasted. Starbucks is a daily ritual for us. After being here 8 days, I think we have been most everywhere. Hopefully tomorrow we can move on to Dawson City.

Keep in touch Virgil and Jo. Looks like you are catching up fast.

Helen,
We're peddling as hard as we can, well maybe not quite....made it to Fort Nelson on Saturday and decided to stop to see the NASCAR Busch race Sat night and the Cup race today. Moving north again Monday am. Would love to have a Starbucks with you guys.

We'll catch up at some point guys. Just take your time. This is not something you want to rush through. It just keeps on getting better and better. Not to worry on the Starbucks, we always have a bag of the beans in the Tana that we can grind.

Virgil47, Be sure to stop at Dawson Peaks for soup and pie. They are both excellent. We just loved it there.

We are about a week away from starting our northward trek from Seattle, and are wondering what to expect in the way of cell phone service and internet availability in BC. We are considering ponying up the extra $20 a month for Canadian service on Verizon if we thought we could get internet over their aircard. Looking at their coverage map it seems like pretty fair coverage as far as Prince George, BC, but that's it until you get up around Tok. Helen, from your journal (which we are following with great interest), it sounds like you are relying solely on WiFi. Any advice from you guys who have been there/done that would be appreciated.

We are haveing better luck with wifi than phone. We haven't had phone service for ages. We did get it the day we went to Skagway but that was back in the states anyway. I think we have only had service once since Dawson Creek and then that was roaming. We carry two different cells with us. Verizon and Cingular. Most of the parks offer wifi. It isn't always working though.

Re. cell coverage in BC, etc. If you get the North America Plan from Verizon (+$20) for the trip you avoid high roaming charges. As you can imagine, coverage is only good around towns, however. Some CGs have cable modems instead of WiFi. You do need a patch cord to plug in. Some will rent you the cord, but I bought one to carry. WiFi service is growing at CGs and we all need to applaud and encourage those that do, especially parkwide coverage for "free."

bobgay,
We only have Cingular and there has been virtually no cell covereage in BC. On the eifi issue, each campground has had some sort of wifi. Most of the time we've had to go to the office or the laundry to get it but there was wifi available. We're in Whitehorse tonight at Pioneer RV Park and have wifi in the trailer and cable TV with about 75 channels and FHU for $24 a night. The spaces are really tight but we're not outside much so it doesn't matter to us.
Best of luck on your trip.

Check out Hi-Country RV Park in Whitehorse. Bigger sites, lots of trees, and pleasant setting. Stayed there going and coming after seeing Pioneer.

Hello Alaska Travelers,
Wednesday, June 14, 2006
Whitehorse, YT to Beaver Creek, YT

Today is the first day since we left home that I didn't want to be here. The road was horrible today. Frost-heaves very frequently and they were really rough. Broke a lamp in the fiver and things fell out of the cabinets inside. When we would hit the unannounced frostheaves several in a row, the trailer would bounce differently than the truck and we occasionally jump lanes. Changing lanes on a two lane road is real scary!

Additionally, there was several strips of several miles each of gravel road where there was no paving, just a gravel road. Those parts were very dusty. 250 miles was enough for today. I forgot to close the cookstove vent this morning and there was a pile of dirt under it behind the stove.

I've decided that the Canadian government does a good job on the part of the Alaskan Hwy that they use. This part from Whitehorse to the Alaska border that mostly folks from the States use, they don't care so much about.
Guess I need some rest, I just reread this and I sound grouchy. That's not like me at all.

We made it to Anaconda,MT today 6/14/06, tomorrow will go to Coured' Alene,ID and spend a couple of nights there and then cross into Canada at Osoyoos on Saturday. Hope to see some of you soon. We also have Cingular, but don't plan on using it while in CA.

KRVK, are you pulling two trailers in tandem? Take it easy on those bumpy roads.

Good Morning, I found wireless service, I am in Canmore, Alberta. We are heading into Banff today. We have had a great time so far. I had a problem with my propane side of my HW heater, but got it corrected with the help of a great guy at Field of Dreams RV Dealer near Calgary.
Glacier Park was super, the weather could have been better, but it was still great. Looking forward to getting on the Alaska Hwy.

We're getting green with envy at everyone getting a head start on us. You all seem to be having way too much fun. We'll be along before too long.

Looks like Helen is leading the way. Cell phone works great in Tok. I've got five bars inside the fiver! We choose Tok RV Park but it was a mistake for us. I choose it because it advertized TV service and wifi. Well, the cable has only 5 channels (none that carries NASCAR) and the wifi costs....are you ready....$8.95 a day! I'm currently sitting outside of "Alaska Gifts" in downtown Tok, using their free wifi.
