'04 or '05 - 2955?

Is there any major differences in the 2005 model 2955's compared to the 2004's. From visual comparison, I can only find some very minor cosmetic changes. Can get a pretty good deal on the '04, but it has the 1/2 time microwave/oven and no gas oven. '05 has gas oven but regular microwave. Otherwise units have same options.

Welcome to the Forum!

I'd look closely, I believe for '05 6 panel interior doors have been added along with the option (or included?) ceramic toilet, aluminium wheels and I am sure I am missing some things.

I am sure you have, but may I ask if you have compared the specifications, standard equipment list and list of options on these two models at Keystone Montana web site? This might give a heads up to any internal differences or unseen structural or equipment changes.

I have compared brochures and web site, and can only find a few things that were options on the '04 are standard on the '05, such as 50 AMP, safety glass, 10 gal. water heater, all of which the '04 has. Can not find any structure difference, but could be missing something. The '05 is early production, so didn't know if things had changed since then.

Our 2005 2955RL has a gas oven and 1/2 time oven. I have not seen a 2004 so I cannot tell you any differences. Ours has several options and I do not know what was "standard."

Our 05 3295Rk had the following that was different than an 04 models, don't remember which type, that we saw at the dealer. In fact ours was listed on the inventory sheet as an 04, but after making the deal we were notified that it was an early production O5:

Gas oven,
Microwave/Convection oven (Haven't used the convection side)
Wire baskets in pantry as opposed to 2 wooden drawers
(Needed to place a shim on one side of the bracket to keep
the bottom 2 baskets from comming off the tracks.)
Aluminum Wheels
I think different axles than the Alkos that have been causing
problems in earlier models. At least this is the info from
the 04 rally factory tour.

My 04 2955RL came off the line in May 03 and the 04 units that came of line at the end of the 04 production had many changes. Mine has a gas oven, which I really don't like and have never used so we use it for snack storage. The kitchen counter was 2 piece (counter top and sink seperate pieces) and has wood trim around the edge.

The later year units had the microwave/oven, a single piece counter top with sinks molded in. The cabinets in the livingroom slide had changed and they placed the stereo beneath the TV. The cabintry also changed above the recliners as well as in the bedroom.

There were many changes in the same model year and I won't go into all the changes that were made in the 05s. In the 05s they upgraded to 50 AMP which does not please me at all. A large number of CGs charge extra for 50 AMP. The reasoning for the amperage change was they added a washer/dryer cabinet. Saw this in the proto type at the plant tour. The washer/dryer was added into the bedroom by shortening the dresser and cabinets on the right and shortening the closet that runs across the front. When Jeff Rank asked what I thought of the proto type I said "I hated it!" He looked a bit dumbfounded until I added "Because it ain't mine"

Unlike other manufacturers Montana does not wait for a new model year to introduce changes. They make the changes on the run as the units are built. Only problem I can see is with this is when ordering, what you thought you ordered may not be exactly what you get.

At the rally factory tour, talking with one of the reps after the tour, I was told the new ones would have steel rafters in the ceiling rather than aluminum. The reason was to cut down on condensation, I think. I'm not positive the late '04's don't have this change though. And I've not confirmed that the '05 models actually got the change.

It depends on when the camper was built in 04. They did change the roof studs from aluminum to a C-channel stamped steel. Thats the only structural change. Look at the sticker next to the door. Does it say aluminum stucture or aluminum plus? If it's aluminum plus then it has the new roof studs. Some other things are the solid surface counter tops, six panel doors, convection oven is now standard with 22" oven, New bedroom desighn, washer/dryer prep is now an option on any floor plan, 19" TV is now standard in bedroom, New graphics, New desighn on aluminum wheels, Day/Night shades are standard, 15,000 A/C with remote is now standard, the new free standing table also has an extension on it. Thats a few of the things I remember of the top of my head.

I am now the owner of a 2004 model 2955RL. It must have been a pretty late build, as it had most of the new options listed. It was pretty well loaded, but most important, it had the options momma wanted. Since it was an '04, I got what I consider a real good deal. As a newbie, there will be alot of questions to follow. Thanks for the help.

Hey "newbie" fire away with those questions. We are here for you.

What cracks me up is we both have 04 2955RLs but the difference in the two is staggering. I couldn't believe the number of changes between a May, 03 unit, when mine came off line, and the late 03 unit that I saw at the Tampa show last January.

2002dura -

Good luck and congrats on the new unit. I know what you mean when you talk about pleasin' momma. If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody gonna be happy. I really think you'll like your new Montana. I have met very few people who aren't thrilled to own theirs. And the fact that you got a good deal is icing on the cake.
