Roof Problems

So, first ever letter to Trailer Life Action Line. When unit was 4 months old, staple tried to come up through roof membrane. Dealer repaired under warranty. Now, unit is slightly over 2yrs old, and staple trying to poke through roof in same area again. Not the same staple, about 2 feet away from prior occurrence. This time, dealer says tough luck-$750 to fix. I call Keystone, since I think a reoccurrence of same problem, in same area, and both caused by shoddy construction, should be covered as a warranty issue. Dealer also appeals to Keystone -so they tell me - request denied. I also think $750 is ridiculous, but thought purchasing dealer would give me best shot of getting it repaired under warranty. My extended warranty does not cover this type of event.

I know warranties have a beginning and an end, but this has nothing to do with wear and tear or how I use the trailer. It is solely the result of improper construction, and had already happened once before. Picked up trailer today -out the $750 - only hope is Trailer Life getting Keystone to reconsider. Will keep you posted. Would be interested if you think I am being unreasonable in my expectations of Keystone.

UPDATE: Keystone called today and agreed to cover the repair under warranty, and will reimburse me the full $750 bucks! My faith in Keystone's commitment to excellent customer service has been restored!

Trailer life is a good idea, go for it. Also if you're coming to the Rally, bring it up with the Keystone tech on your 15 minutes.

Hmmmm I think for one staple I woulda either hammered it back in or cut a small slit and pulled it out and then put a Etrnabond tape patch on it.....total cost $2 buck it you got a spare roll on hand.

I'm with Dave too. I would have tried to get Keystone to step up first as you have, but then the tape would have worked for me.

I thought about eterna-bond tape, but seemed like a bad idea to have a hole in my roof if it was at all avoidable. Plus, I wanted to make sure something else wasn't causing the problem. If it ever happens again, I will probably do the repair job myself. Costly lesson learned!

I just had Montana...at Goshen, redo my staples with screws. I have about 15-25 staples coming up on my new trailer.

yes, it was under warranty but I think this is another issue that Montana has.

I had several staples come loose all on one side. The camper was not three months old. Round trip to dealer is 250 miles and I had rather do it myself.
It is not that difficult if you have a good cordless drill. Take the vinyl insert out of drip rail. Take the drip rail off, about 15 minutes. The rubber is not glued to the metal radius. Roll EPDM toward center, pull staples and replace with 1/2" stainless #6 screws. While I was at it I replace every staple on that side. Sure some day I'll have to do other side.
I'm almost 74 years old so if I can you can.
