Paint issue
I have a 2016 Montana 5th wheel that a wash and wax expert has just informed me that one side and the rear is down to the primer and needs to be repainted. He claims it was a bad paint job and that we should contact Keystone to see if they will help with the cost. Has anyone heard of anything like this happening?

Have not heard of that , However we have a 14 high country that has the grey color. We have to get it buffed every year to keep the oxidation away. Simple waxing will not touch it. It appears to be a problem with the gel coat. I assume that is why all the new units no longer have my color.

Never seen what you describe. You did not indicate whether or not you had a full body paint model. Painted objects down to primer should be obvious and easy to spot. Gelcoat is not normally painted. Keystone has recently been advertising painted caps front and rear, but nothing about sides, re non-full body paint models, can you post a picture.?

Paint issue
Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this. My unit has been at Camping World in Myrtle Beach for the last month waiting to get looked at. Yes it is the grey color that ctwebb mentions in their post and I believe it is a gel coat issue. I know nothing about gel coat. There is a dark patch on one of the slide out panels but otherwise it just looks dull. This just happened on one side and the rear. The owner of this RV wash and wax company claimed that the finish was down to the primer and it would not take wax. Said that in a couple years water would be seeping through the walls to the interior. Camping World just sent me an estimate just for the one side for over 11k.

You could paint it for less.

This winter in Peurto Penasco saw a Montana that was painted for about $2500, this included painting the TV also. The paint job was nothing fancy as far as writing and strips but looked very nice. $11000 seems very high for what was being done but it is CW.

Ours is a full body paint Big Sky that started life as a off the line 2013 3402 and was painted .It is easy to see the original color when the full body paint is chipped. My understanding is the gel coat is not painted but a solid color..The statement from the wax company is not clear.

Sounds like you have a montana high country, which were well known for their oxidation of the front cap due to the gelcoat color tint used in the gelcoat. Gelcoat is basically polyester resin which uses me to start the solidifying process. Oxidation does not cause water pent ration period! But to get back to the original shine, an experienced detailer has to use polishing compounds with a large buffer. CW was quoting a high price to make lots of profit or get you to take it somewhere else. You need to find a business that is honest with what it takes to retort your unit. After done, you need to wash and wax a couple of times a year as part of your normal maintenance.
