Evacuation Report
Well, we are switching campgrounds. We will be at Western Ridge in Livermore, two miles from the house we can't get to until we're cleared. Most of the Fort Collins area is bending over backwards to help evacuees. One of the Hilton chain cancelled reservations for a large boys baseball tournament to make sure rooms were available for evacuees. Western Ridge restaurant and Campground is offering first priority to evacuees, and pay what you can. Lakeside KOA, where we are leaving, is just the opposite. With abut a quarter of the park empty, we had to park our extra vehicles at the entrance to the park. It's only 300 yards or so, but we have ll of the possessions we saved in those vehicles. The owner said we were idiots for thinking we should be able to park in empty campsites. Anyway, our house for the moment is not in immediate danger. They are calling for 50 mph winds Monday with high temperatures. That will not help. Cost of the fire is now over $9 million.

Dude at that campground is pretty stupid. He just got a lot of BAD BAD PR, which will be hard to undo.
What is wrong with allowing parking of extra vehicles in the empty lots as long as they are not rented? With the understanding that if a paying customer comes in, ya gotta move the vehicles.
A man's true grit shows in times of emergencies, his did, he is the idiot!
You two be safe now, ya hear!

We live & camp in Colorado and will be scratching that KOA off our list of places to stay. Karma has their number!
Hope this fire misses you altogether.

Hope all stays well for you and your Home. prayers sent for a good out come.
We usto go to Waldport Oregon Every 4th of July for Many years and stayed at the KOA. It was a great park lots of fun things to do, BBQ watermelon and jello eating contest. Games for the kids and adults. Ice cream every night at 7. They had a pet parade and RV decorating contest. Then they changed owners. It went down Hill and we have never been back or stayed at another one.

Ron and Terrie I recommend posting a review of your treatment by Lakeside KOA campground in RV Park Reviews. I often go to the RV Park Reviews to read the comments posted there to compare a park to others nearby or get a general trend of what other think of the CG. This will get the word out fast and in a timely manner at the beginning of camping season.

We had a terrible experience with them last year when we had cancelled before 48 hours arrival time, they told us it had to have been done the day before which made it 72 hours. We had to call corporate for our money. The campground people were not Nice. We asked to see the owners and the people we were talking to told us they were in Denver sleeping. We are sure the ones we were talking to were the owners

Ron and Terrie,
I can not believe how some people have no compassion for those that are in a position you both are in now. I agree with Mrs. Country Guy they are the IDIOTS! Sending prayers for your continued safety and that of your home!!!!

KOA... BAD. Hilton... GOOD!
Sad that KOA's highjacked this thread. I can understand the KOA guy's position. Evacuees may want those empty spaces, and he doesn't want to miss a chance of filling up his sad little CG. What I can't understand is the Hilton hotel's action... WOW! That oughtta make the evening news. What a wonderfully compassionate move!
It's got to be gut-wrenching to be so close to your home and not be able to go there. But love every day; soak in the kindness of others and be ready for whatever tomorrow brings to you. Good luck; I hope you get to go home soon!

KOA's have been scratched off my list of possibilities for a long time. Don't care for there high priced, small lot with attitude kind of workers/owners. They act like they are the only game in town. Just my opinion and choice. This just makes me more in that direction.
Prayers to you folks on your home. I can't imagine what you are going through. Take care and have the best days you can.

Ron and Terri, we trust that things will work out well for you and that something wonderful and unexpected will come out of this trial.
Dave and Kathy
PS, let's keep in mind that KOA's are "franchise stores". There may be other KOA owners shaking their heads right now, wondering why the idots are doing the wrong thing.

As many of you have probably seen, the High Park Fire continues to burn. Our Glacier View neighborhood stays in the news as either #1 or #2 priority for the crews. The Red Flag warning the past two days has not helped. They lost another 9 homes Sunday, including one belonging to a firefighter. No homes have burned in our neighborhood. One of the features of our new home is a home automation system from Control4. I can pull up cameras inside/outside the house, check the temps inside and turn lights on/off. I believe our house will be safe, but the cause of our evacuation was a spot fire that crossed Highway 14 and the Poudre River. A column of flame spun into the air. The wind blew the column until it touched down on the other side of the road. Think how high that column of flame was.
We evacuated the Western Ridge campground on Sunday to a different KOA. This one is in Wellington, Colorado. We have cell service/Internet there which was a problem up in the mountains. Thanks for your prayers.

Ron, Terrie if you have a chance to answer. How much of the forest is pine bark beetle damaged or dead?
Thanks Lynwood

Ron and Terrie - My prayers are with you both for the best outcome. I know how scarey those fires can be, I chased them as a firefighter for over 30 years all over the West and they can be crazy and have a mind of their own.
Best of Luck to You and Everyone Effected There!
Scott

MLH, 70% of the trees are dead in many parts of the forest because of bark beetle attacks. In the long term, this is how forests renew themselves. We will end up with more wildlife and a healthier forest. We still have no idea how long we will be evacuated. This fire is 55% contained, which means the east and south portions are anchored. They still are having a difficult time north and west. Fire jumped the Poudre for the third time yesterday prompting pre-evacuation alerts for more people.
