factory gen prep switch location
Hello,
If you order factory gen prep, wouldn't the wiring for the starter/hour meter go to where all the other trailer monitors are located? Ours came in with the generator switch/hour meter in the entertainment center (front on the 3750FL) a couple of shelves down. You have to open the cabinet, move whatever will be in the way, bend over and use a flashlight to see it!
Sounds like they grabbed a unit that was built/almost built and added the generator and then did a quick and easy switch mount.
Just wondering where anyone has the switch mounted that ordered the factory gen prep and generator.
Thanks for any input!
Greg

Yep. It's not where you'd expect it. In our 3400 it's in the bedroom closet. I also would have wanted it with the other monitors, or at least in a more accessible place.

Greg, ours is in the same place in a years earlier same model, it is the easiest location to get to from the front generator compartment. The entertainment center is directly overhead on our model and on other models such as Walt's, the front closet is directly overhead. One thing we did was get an auto-start for the generator (Onan makes it as well) so at least I can start the generator from anywhere - even in the truck as we are traveling! Definitely comes in handy although it is a bit pricey. I have a thread posted previously detailing the remote starter. It is an Onan EC-30W and is really simple to install. As a matter of fact, if I ever take the time to figure out the programming, it can be set to start the generator when there is shore power failure, or can be programmed to start at certain temperatures. The last feature is why I got it for the creatures in the rig when we travel, but I have discovered it is just as easy to monitor the temperature with a remote thermometer (weather station type) and start the generator from the truck when traveling. There is also a shut-off on the remote as well as a battery voltage meter. Still have to get the programming right since I want to use it in case of power failure when we are in hot climates as a back-up system to keep the animals cool if we are away when the power fails.

Thanks Walt and Bingo!
At least I have confirmation. Silly me I thought "gen prep" actually meant preparing the unit for a generator - like running wire to the spot where you would put a meter!! Not putting it in the easiest place for the installer LOL
That remote is nice Bingo, but yeah, a little pricey. It sounds like you definitely spoil your little critters as much as we do. With two dogs that love heat, we're never going to get near our fireplace!

We have a 2955, and ours is in the front closet, as well. Not a pain to get to, though.
