Starting our season

Well the date is set. Pending any unexpected bad weather we start our camping season February 16. Just a short trip down the road to break things in for the new season. We have a camping trip planned for just about every month this season already.......

Had to rub it in on my friends to the North. All you folks down in Florida that have been camping all winter can stop laughing now

WBFT, Yep I am pea green with envy of you full timers. We have a few more years before we get there.

Jeff, What part of Texas is Bastop in? I saw the kayak in the profile. If you need info on Arkansas float streams (and even some in Texas) touch base.

MidMo, We flew down and did a week in Costa Maya last year ourselves. We also do cruises fairly regularly too. And like you I enjoy trout fishing. I just got back into it not long ago after years chasing the Bass Tournaments. I live in North Central Arkansas really close to the Little Red and not to far from the White. There are really nice campgrounds at both rivers. We also float and fish the Spring River but the campgrounds there leave a little to be desired.

Well I guess you do the Comal and Guadlupe then? It has been a long time. What river flows out of Cooper Lake? Or is it Copper lake?

We get a lot of Texas folks up here for the Arkansas White Water. Very active paddler scene here.

James have done several AR rivers in the past. DW has retired from moving water, so we have not been up there in a while. For a number of years we would spend a week doing AR rivers. Where we went was based on where the beast water was for the week. Was even introduced to Buffalo Gnats.

MidMO,
We float Crooked Creek a good bit. In fact we are already scheduled to camp at Buffalo Point just south of Yellville in June. I have talked to a lady with rentals going into the Snow access on Crooked Creek, is that your relative? You might note that they have added another launch at Georges Creek which cuts the creek float downstream from snow in half. All the segments now are about even. If you get down this way look us up. We live on Cadron Creek!

Jeffba, I have not done the Gnats but I have done the Cossottot (class 5 white water for others reading this). I float with a lot of new people these days and tend to keep it at level 2 or so as a result.

If any of you are going to the Montana Rovers rally in Hot Springs, keep in mind that the Caddo river is fairly close to there and it is an excellent Class 2 floating river. There are outfitters at Glenwood, AR.
