Before you have the tank replaced, you might want to see if you can repair it. Our galley tank was leaking at the top (only when filled to the top) and I had it removed and replaced. Once it was removed, I found the pinpoint hole at the corner where it lays on the frame rail. Seems to be a common problem from what I have read.
You might want to try Travel Star's fix - put some water in a bucket and then swirl some ABS glue in the water with your hand. Mold this resulting mixture into a ball and squeeze as much water out as you can. Now, after having cleaned the area to be fixed, apply this mixture to the hole. After 3 full days of curing, fill the tank to the top and see if it still leaks. If it does, have it replaced, if not, then...
Oh, and to answer your question, the repair guys cut the outflow and installed a flexible rubber coupler with hose clamps on each side. As for the vent and inflow, ours was one and the same so only one cut inside. This new pipe was glued rigidly.
