Corian Dull
OK here's my first question about my "New to me" rig. I got what I take it to be a Corian kitchen counter. It has built in sinks. It also has scratches where it has been used the most. My questin is, what is the best way to polish it back to new condition?

A 2004 model doesn't have Corian counters, They are a fiberglass like plastic. I believe they can be polished, but I don't remember what to use.

I use "Zep" Commercial for the Corian tops and the bathroom sink (which is some sort of composite material). To buff out scratches you may be able to use a light automotive polishing compound. As always I suggest trying any cleaner first on an edge or other location which is not conspicuous.

Good advice...we were told by a Corian rep at Home Depot that the "polish" that is sold in many places as a Corian polish should not be used...according to this fellow, the cleaner which should be used on Corian does not leave the clean "shine" we have always looked for after cleaning our Corian countertops. This miracle cleaner is Comet "Soft Scrub" with bleach. We use it, but it does not provide the gleaming shine we would like to see....

We have used Gel Gloss by TR Industries with good results. It's sold at several locations.

Here is a copy of a post made by Parrothead in 2006 (pre-Corian) regarding care of the earlier counter-tops. As Carl stated the pre-2008 counter-tops were not Corian:
This is a copy of the instructions we found in all the paper work that came with our Monty. So far we have had no problems with stains and we do drink wine so occassionally wine get on the counter (what a waste!).
Here are the cleaning instructions:
Soap and mild detergents will clean most stains. For stubborn stains use a white Scotch Brite pad and a nonabrasive cleaner like Soft Scrub.
For scratches, use a green Scotch Brite pad and an abrasive cleaner like Ajax or Comet. Cover an area large enough to blend the area being addressed. Use a circular motion.
For most stubborn stains and scratches start with 240 grit sandpaper then follow with green Scotch Brite pad and abrasive cleaner. Repeat if necessary. If you use sandpaper, wet surface area to control dust.
Do's and Don'ts:
Always run cool water when pouring boiling water into bowl.
Always use a hot pad or trivets under hot pots or dishes or heat producing appliances, such as frying pans and the like.
Always use a cutting board and never use a knife on countertop surface.
Avoid harsh chemicals like drain cleaners, oven cleaners, etc.
Only have a professional fabricator use power sanding equipment on the countertop materials.
Do not let cleaners with bleach sit on the countertop..wipe off immediately.

Bingo, the best part about the bleach cleaner is that it kills germs...therefore, you just lick up any spilled wine! Michael

Wow, thanks everyone for the info. I may have to rethink the Corian thng. Maybe it's NOT a Corian top. I may have to call Montana and see what the material is and how to clean and seal it. I'd surely like to slick it up because it is sort of a focal point when you come into the rig.

We have a 2005 2955 with the corian look counter top. It definitely is not corian it is a fiberglass that looks like corian. I have not found anything to bring back the orginal shine myself and it is dull in areas you use often. If you find something please let us know.

There are polishes made for fiberglass counter-tops that are relatively cheap if someone wanted to try them to see how the results turn out. I am sure that all of the owners of pre-Corian countertops would be interested in knowing the results of whoever decided to be the guinea pig. Here are a couple of links to products that came up on an internet search:
Fiberglass polish
Countertop cleaner and polish
This is not an endorsement of either product (I have never used them), but is provided as information that there evidently are products out there.

I have a can of the Gel Gloss so I will try that since I guess it can't be a Corian countertop. Thanks

Well the Gel gloss didn't work. I rubbed it in well then let it dry some then used my power buffer on but it didn't improve the sheen any. I'll keep trying. My wife has something called countertop gloss that works well in our kitchen but thats laminate so I don't know yet if that will work. Either way I should have quite a buildup of gunk that I'll probably have to clean off. Never ending

I tried the counter top cleaner and polish from Lowes when we first bought our used 2955. I did not see any change except for our wallet.

On the instructions that I posted long ago that Bingo referred to states the counter top is a matte finish. That means it is not meant to "shine". You may be spending money and time without the result you want because it was not meant to be a gloss.
Happy trails...........

Thanks Don for the info. We went to a hardware box store today and I saw plenty of matte finish countertops and they looked just like ours. We did buy a new can of Gel Gloss for countertops so I'm not giving up without a fight. Everybody have a great day and I hope your in a warmer place than me. Which won't be hard. We got snow and down to 3 degrees tomorrow night.
