Check for fire danger
Ever since we bought our rig I've thought the light over the dinning room table was getting too hot, but I was lazy and never had a wrench when I thought of it. Took it off today and there is a big sticker on it that says putting over a 40w bulb in it was a fire danger. You guessed it, it was a 60w bulb. Not as bad as it could have been, but still a stupid thing to put in there. Don't know if it came that way from Keystone or if the dealer burned it out and replaced it. It was a bulb from an electric supply company, however, not a store brand and would have been purchased in bulk by someone.

We ran into the same situation with the dome light over the couch. It got so hot you flat out couldn't touch it without getting burnt. We also replaced the bulbs with lower wattage ones.

Thanks for the reminder. Seen a burnt place the other day where the lights above a vanity near the ceiling had burned the ceiling pretty bad. I think I seen this on line. One of the very first things we did after getting our present Montana was to remove the lights above the vanity and replace them with low wattage florescent bulbs. I don’t believe the replacement bulbs would burn the ceiling. Our unit was purchased used so I’m not certain what wattage bulb would come in a new Montana. As a suggestion, it might be a good place to check; over size bulbs can be a major problem. Thanks again for the reminder!

Bill,
Your model year of the 3400 was known for discoloration of the ceiling area above the bath vanity. It came with large clear incandescent bulbs that were very close to the ceiling and did burn very hot. We knew this from previous forum postings and knew not to leave those lights on for extended periods of time. When we traded it off, it still had the original bulbs in it!!

We put in a 13 watt CFL that gives of light similar to a 60 watt incandescent but gets no where near as hot. Also installed a 13 watt CFL in the ceiling fan. It has a 110 volt mini base bulb socket.

We replaced most of our dome lights, dining light, and bathroom lights with LEDs. No more worries. Ordered from Michael and Kat.

X2 That's what finally caused me to discover the problem.

Not trying to cut in on Mike Taylor Led lights as these are 110 volts 4 Watts, and the ones that Mike is selling are 12 Volts and are great and the only problem that I have with his is the dirt can no longer hide in the dark corners they are too bright and the DW says your need to clean the floor there is dirt in the corner.
I’m not sure about the “Costco” in your area, but the one near our house has (Lights of America POWER LED Decorative Light Blubs) 3 pack for $4.00 dollars off limit of 10 no coupon needed. They are 4 watts and are brighter than the 40 watt blubs that came with the unit when new.
The question of heat on the vanity lights in the 3400RL the new light have no heat give off and much better than the mercury bulbs.
The sale is only good until April 1st 2012 sorry that I didn’t see them before this I was going down the aisle when I saw them and though what the heck I’ll give them a try, and they are great for $18.99 minus $4.00

We bought our trailer last summer and found the same problem with the light fixture over our table. The light fixture was so hot you couldn't touch it. I took off the cover and found the 60 watt bulb and notice in there also. I contacted our dealer about it but they didn't seem to concerned about it. It even burned a hole in the aluminum protective heat shield. Keystone needs to watch this a lot more carfully. I replaced the bulb with a 40 watt bulb, a lot better now. Hope to change everything over to LED's later on.
