Brad - Slow and eeeaaasssyyyy. I try to put both hands to raise the shade at each end if possible. First I raise just the night portion, then I raise the day shades. The other thing to watch for is make sure you keep them level as you are raising them. When lowering, lower the day shade first, then lower the night shades. Same process, keep hands at both ends and keep it level as you go down.

Phill, that is exactly the way we do the shades also. David and I both raise certain shades together...for instance , the one behind the table has to be raised by two people or it will tear up. We found this out when we first got the Montana. Also, we found out that the little plastic end pieces will come off easily ,especially the one behind the table. If they come off, then the white shade will come off the bottom piece and it is a mess to fix. David has had to fix it several times. But, you are right, slow and easy is the way to do it...Amen to everything you said.

They are a pain in the butt and great care must be taken in raising and lowering them or they will rip. It is like indy roadrunner said..Can not believe they put such things in a camper..there has got to be a better way..this sounds like a job for.....OZZ....

Yes - OZZ! Please come up with an electric modification, with ball bearings and stuff, so I can quit straddling that kitchen table to put the shade down!

Fine tuninig the tension on the little bobins at the bottow will help make them easier to raise and lower. We undid the knots that are there now and wound the cord a few turns around the bobin to apply some tension, then try them out. With some trial and error you can get them running quite nicely.

Like indy roadrunner said-slow and easy, first the night shade, PULL OUT away from the window with both hands approx an inch TO CLEAR THE KNOBS and then lift. Same with the day shade. Two ripped shades and a lot of luck. They are tight, but we don't have any more ripped shades.

Since most of the units have plenty of windows to open, we took the knob off the window by the table. Have it tucked away should we ever need it. This eliminates the shade hanging up on the knob.

Did the same as Sue, only with TWO knobs. Stuck em in the cupboard over the window, easy to grab when I want to open the window, don't have to mess with trying to get that shade over the knob the other 320 times a year I move em up and down. (note, the 320 is a hopeful estimate, wish ful hoping, I don't get to stay in Tana THAT many days a year - - - yet! HAHA)

I like your new layout for your pictures. Looks really nice. If it was a "Glenn Thing" he did good.
BTW all of the windows in the Monty are easier to open than those that have the screw out knob. Plus they are easier on the noggins of someone walking to close. Eventually the screw also strips inside and you turn and turn and nothing happens. We like the sliders much better - side or up and down.

That sounds like a good idea to remove the knobs. You know these are the first day/night blinds that I have ever had any trouble with. In our previous rv they went up and down with no problems at all. Do you think Keystone used super cheap ones? I also raise them slowly one at a time..but last time out I had the end pop off and didnt know if and almost lost the whole shade...

I thought I was just a klutz but it sounds like a universal experience. Just had three in our new unit replaced. The problem seems to be the end caps coming off & allowing one end of the shade to tilt up, sliding the lower shade out of the slot. Has anyone had any experience securing the end caps so they won't come off at all? I haven't had time to look yet, but was thinking about running a pin through the end cap and bar so they couldn't come off. Will it work? Mike

Yikes, I kept finding a couple of mine on the floor and got tired of putting them back on and just tossed them in a drawer. I better get them on and secure before something bad happens!!

We had the same problem with ours. Three were missing when we got the Montana. Soon, the one behind the table was beginning to catch and rip the shade. Dealer took three tries before getting the correct ones to replace. I glued the offending ones and the problem was solved.

However, it did little to help the problem with snagging those tie backs on the sides. Last weekend we fixed that problem for good! I had replaced the glass in the dinette window last summer - it was struck by a flying missile of some sort and had a star break about 2 inches big. We decided to leave the side curtains and ties off. We liked it, but it did seem a little bare.

Well, after reading some discussion here about the metal brackets, I decided to make mine from aluminum strips that I got at Lowe's. I made them similar to the bedroom brackets.

Sandy turned each side curtain upside down and cut a slot to string the "bottom" (now the top) on the curtain rod. Slid the "new" brackets through the old curtain rod slot and screwed them to the wall. We really like the look and there is NO catching on anything while moving up or down. I think others have done the same or similar but we are so hppy with the result, I thought I'd add it here.

We replaced the dining room shade and the replacement ripped. Replaced the bedroom shade and it ripped. Glued and screwed the end caps into place, so we don't have any problem with the shades shifting when we open or close them, but gave up on having them work properly. Have been looking at Home Depot and I am thinking of ordering some shades and replacing all of the original ones.
