Water Heater

Inherited a Montana from a family member and new to 5th wheel campers. The heater tank is full of water. I see the switch to light the heater. The propane tank has a value and I see another line valve. Is lighting the heater as simple as opening both valves and flipping the switch?

Welcome to the forum! If your rig is normal, there is a little black switch in the compartment with the heater. When that switch is on and the inside switch is on electric the heater will work on electric when the rig is plugged in. If at least one tank is open and has LP in it the heater should light when the inside switch marked propane is on. You should light the stove first, to make sure the air is out of the system.

If you list what model and year Montana you have it would be helpful. My WH runs on propane or AC current. To run on propane I flip the red switch by my stairs to bedroom, and to run on AC I flip the switch outside in the WH cabinet.

Not sure of model. It’s a 2005 and measures 38ft nose to tail. I looked at the panel beside the stairs and there is a switch beside the water pump switch that indicates HTR. Guess that is for AC operation. Thanks for your help.

On my 2006 the button marked HTR next to the pump switch is for gas function of the water heater. Believe yours will be the same. We normally heat water on electric but if both have to shower back to back will heat with both electric and gas. Kind of makes it a turbo heater for faster recovery.

The switch next to the water pump is for propane for your water heater. To run the water heater on electric go outside to where your water heater is and open up the door. There should be a switch that you have to turn on.
