Heat pump

I have a 3910fb with a domestic rear 15k ac, my thermostat says it has a HP mode, I'm assuming that is heat pump. No such mode on front A/C, how do I know if it for sure has a heat pump????

There are RV air conditioners out there that now include a heat pump. You may have one or you may have a generic thermostat that is set up to run one. Why don't you try it and see if it puts out heat.

BTW, our thermostat and the instructions that came with it are for two air conditioners. We have only one, so all of the stuff to operate the second doesn't work. You may have a similar situation.

The dometic thermostat has that mode IF you have a heat pump installed. Not likely on a montana. John

The first time it gets chilly try it. FYI, it will not work below around 40 degrees...it just blows cool air.

I will try it. Can't seem to find anything on it. Guess I will pull the cover and get serial and model number and call dometic. Thanks everyone for your input.

Heat pumps only on Big Sky is what I was told. I wanted to upgrade to a Heat pump on my Montana but was told no way. Same with an awning that has the aluminum cover, no way.

It's odd that the thermostat has a HP setting if it doesn't have a heat pump. Our Big Sky has it and we love it. We have one thermostat for both units, but only the rear unit has the HP option. The front unit does not have a heat pump and no HP option is on the thermostat for that unit. I would certainly give it a try.

Exactly how mine is, no option on zone 2 but it has hp mode on zone 1.

Can anyone tell me what the heat strip setting is on our thermostat? We have a Montana High Country 353RL.
Thanks!

Probably doesn't have a heat strip in it unless you ordered it with..?
It would be on the thermostat if it was there, push the mode button while in zone 1 and see.

Agree. Long ago I had an AC unit with the heat strip and the only way to activate it was a switch on the unit itself. On newer units there would be a thermostat setting just like currently for the heat pump.

I suspect if you have a Heat Pump your Thermostat should look like this!

Our 2017, not a legacy, has a heat pump and I think most new rig come with one.

kdeiss......that link you posted with the picture of the thermostat looks just like ours except ours says heat strip not heat pump. We must have it because we got heat from it last night! Don’t usually have to worry about staying warm in Gulf Shores! Thanks for replying everyone!

What you have is a resistive electric element a different shape but works like the element in an Electric Stove oven. So sounds like you do not hsve a Heat Pump.

Andy, I don't see what year your RV is. I'm not sure why others are saying Montana's don't come with heat pumps, but the main AC unit on my 2017 Montana is a heat pump; I think it is standard now. The bedroom unit is not a heat pump.

This from the build sheet:

We just picked up our 3121RL yesterday and the rear unit had the heat pump. The tech showed me how to activate it so I know the rig was equipped with it.

I think more and more MHs and fivers are slowly changing over to electric. By having a heat pump option plus induction stove top the only thing left to run off of propane is a furnace (backup), and water heater.

Especially those with 50 amp service. It seems more are running 50 amp every year.
