remove the bulb from the slide side
and store it. You can always put it in if you think you

Please replace the good light with a burned out one. It will prevent the socket from corroding.

My dealer tech told me not to leave those lights on for an extended period as they would get too hot and warp the lense. So, was he wrong?

The lens should NOT warp no matter how long you have the lights on.

They are called "scare" because when you turn them on they might "scare" someone who is luring around your RV.
