California Central Coast
Hello,
We are thinking about taking a trip up the Central Coast over the Thanksgiving holidays. We are coming from the LA area and don't want to travel too far up. We thought perhaps find a suitable RV park between Santa Barbara and San Simeon.
I have read some reviews on parks in the Pismo Beach area, but they all say the spaces are VERY tight. We have not perfected the backing routine yet.
Does anyone have any recommendations somewhere between Santa Barbara and San Simeon? Thank you so much in advance, this is such a great forum,we learn so much from your valuable input!
Happy RVing!
Sue

When we were in the area, we passed by a campground right on the ocean just north of Monterey. I think it was called The Marina but not sure. We also stayed in Felton which is centrally located between the cities you mentioned. The campground in Felton was called Cotillian Gardens and was very nice and close to Carmel,Monterey, Santa Rosa, and Big Sur.

That would be Marina Dunes RV Park, our favorite because it is the closest to Monterey. However it is more than 100 miles north of San Simeon.
RCMP03,
Flying Flags in Buellton, where the Spring Montana Rally was held is a pretty nice area. Most or all of the sites are pull through. Close by are wineries, an Indian casino, 2 of the old California missions and the town town of Solvang.
Personally unless you want to park on the beach with your dirt buggy; I don't see the allure of Pismo Beach.

We have stayed at the Wine Country RV park in Paso Robles. Very nice newer park with pool, spa and every thing else. Has pull thrus and back ins. Not the cheapest place bu worth the money.
Highly recommend it. If you are going to wine taste I would recommend, Norman, Cass, EOS, Meridian, Grey Fox, Tobin James to name a few. A whole bunch of great resturants in Paso.
Both my sons are wine makers and live in Paso so we vistit a lot.

Thank you for your suggestions. We were wanting to stay near the coast, but have found that everything is booked up! Will have to make arrangements much earlier next year.
We are not wine drinkers, but the area in Paso Robles is very beautiful! I will check availability there next....

There is a very nice RV park in Morro Bay (Morro Strand RV ) right off the freeway 800-799-6030. WE have stayed there the past three years it's very clean and nice.

We are currently at Pismo Sands, nice park. Good pull-thrus for those of us that are still being challenged with the reverse gear! There are 4 Monty's in the park too! Nice pool, jacuzzi, grass. You might check it out. Have a great holiday.

We stayed at a couple of California State parks which are no comparison to Oregon and Washington - found CA parks very small and tight.
A tip for anyone planning to 'do the coast' - The coastal road can be very narrow and winding in spots and I would recommend traveling from North to South as 99% of the pull outs, scenic views etc are on the coast side. If traveling North it is nearly impossible to pull across the other lanes to get into a rest stop, viewpoint etc.
