Washer/Dryer Wiring or Fuse

just sent the following e-mail to Montana Customer Service, wonder how long it will take to get a response:

We have the washer dryer prep and a washer dryer installed. Tonight the washer circuit breaker tripped, it killed both the washer AND dryer. I tried tripping the dryer breaker and the dryer continued to run, however all lights (12 Volt and 110) dimmed. This has to be a miss wiring. Is this safe to use until we can schedule a repair. We will be at the MOC NA Rally in Goshen in September. Please respond ASAP.

We have an 07 3400RL. Anyone else have this problem??

Jim,

Our 3400 has separate breakers for the washer and dryer and they are truly separate. Something sounds wrong.

I would say you were safe up until you said the lights dimmed. I don't think I would wait to get it looked at. In fact I would call Keystone or your dealer to see if you can have an electrician look at it under warranty or if they could send a mobile technician if you can't get to a dealer. In the meantime I think I would shut off the W/D breaker.

Just my thoughts based on your description.

Sounds to me like a wire is loose on the breaker. This causes heat, which would trip a neighbor breaker, not by over- amperage, but by the heat generated by the wire. I concur with Brad, get it checked out. I found most of my neutral wires very loose, and many of my load wires loose on my new unit.
Good luck with this.

My husband put our dryer on a separate extra circuit. Put the plug-in the basement for the dryer. He is putting our fireplace on an added circuit next week.

I would defintly have that looked at as soon as possible. I wouldn't wait until Sept. Could be something loose.

Have any electrician look at it. Too dangerous to let go for any length of time.

If you want to have a Montana dealer look at it, call Keystone, they can tell you the closest dealer to you. If you explain the problem, they might send you somewhere else if there is no Montana dealer nearby.
