Battery cut off switch.

Got tired of batteries draining or having to disconect them while in storage, I put in a diconect switch, I have seen some units at shows that have this red thumb turn key next to the fuse pannel, the thought of taking that apart scares me to death. so I went to the basement where the batteries are and put in a duplex box with a flat cover mounted that to the wall then the Camping world switch on the cover then went to Napa Auto Parts got the wire and conectors that had a 3/8" hole, then I sodered in # 4 wire and some shrink toobing, conected one to the battery and the other to the post on the wall BINGO it worked. BUT should I have put the switch on the negitive side of the batteries? in stead of positive.
