Generator Use When Boon Docking
We have two Honda E2000i portable generators; one is equipped with a “Power Stay” parallel Kit.
Generator Info
I have a couple questions on generator hook up.
1. When only using one generator; are people plugging into one of the 15 Amp outlets or are they using the 30 Amp one?
2. If using the regular 15 Amp receptacles; would it be best to find a harness that would connect the two 15 Amp outlets into one 30 Amp outlet?

At our Quartzsite get together last week, Doug (DHenry) had the parallel connector set up even though he never ran both his Hondas at the same time. He plugged into the 30 A receptacle, and then ran the units one at a time. He also has a nice fuel setup that supplies both generators from a six-gallon tank.
I have two units, but not as sophisticated a setup. I ran one unit for half the time, and the other unit for the rest of the time, filling them from a one gallon container. I do have a homemade parallel connector, so I used both 15 A plugs in one receptacle (I don't think much of the 15 A plug, preferring the 30 or 50 A plugs or twistlocks-read expensive).
Considering there were reliable reports of over 50 Honda 2000s stolen while we were there, I kept the possible loss down to one unit, but I do love his fuel supply system.
Doug got the idea from RVNet, I think, but it's getting pretty popular, so a search should be pretty productive. I got several pictures of Doug's setup, but they're on the other computer. My only contribution at this point would be to use rubber stoppers from a chemical supply house in place of the Honda gas caps, which run about $17 apiece.

I was thinking of running a cable through the handle and locking them to the stabilizer. Are they stealing generators that are chained down or just the ones that are easy to get?

Evidently the thieves carried the same master keys that we carry on our fire apparatus, so cables and chains hardly slowed them down. Anyone who didn't have a chain or cable at least saved the cost of it.
Other than putting them in a steel box on the truck, or maybe well under the trailer so they're out of sight, I'm not sure there's any way to protect them from someone determined to make off with them.

When plugging a 30 AMP cord into a single Honda EU2000i, I use one of these adapters:
I don't know if its any different from just plugging into one of the 15 AMP receptacles (amperage wise), but I like the solid connection, and it prevents anything else from be plugged in.

FireTrucker,
I assume the "Master Keys" look a lot like a cable/chain cutter. Sure glad they didn't find out where we were! I wonder if they took any of the Kipors?
Guess I'd better get busy and get the tray built on the back of the trailer.

That's exactly what they are, Dennis.
From what the fellow said Tuesday morning, all they took were Honda model 2000s...probably a better resale value than anything else. Maybe it would be a good time to check on E-Bay! Also a good time to make sure you have the serial numbers of your units.
Our engine has a big generator on a roll out tray...maybe I should put a bigger box under the bed and leave the generators inside. Might be a little inconvenient when we have to use the truck, though.
How far do you have to go to protect yourself, and I'm not talking about just a sense of security??

So if thiefs don't want Kipors, that makes them keepers. I'm starting to like my Kipor more every day.

We bought a Kipor 3500ti last Friday. We run it about 1 hour a day under differing loads to wring it out.Rolled it across the street to our neighbors "class A" yesterday and hooked it up. It picked up his 15K A/C with no problem. he asked me the usual question..."where did you get a yellow Honda" We are working on having a Kipor district rep bring a couple and do a demo at the G.L regional Rally in Aug. By the way the 3500ti is not a lightweight at 132lbs but I notice the Honda 3000 is 134lbs so they are both heavy. The Honda 2000 and the kipor 2000 weigh about the same BUT you can not hook the Kipor in Parallel. Yet...We wanted to be able to run at least 1 A/C and the Kipor does that at just about half the price of a Honda.

Thats an interesting Fuel Filler setup, can you give the details, on the parts, and prep needed to make that type of setup?

Sweetfire, We use a 6' kryptonite cable and lock and run it through our bumper.

Give them rascal thieves about six month to figure this one out, Don. Regardless of the price, they can still get a pretty good "markup" on anything that's popular... A Kipor gen will be no exception.

Well got info on these extended tanks supposed to let you run 12 or 15 hours b4 refill on tanks. cost is $129.99 and seems high[I can't find correct fittings to make my own] but comes with all correct fittings and instructions; you must remove the vents in the cap[s] of your honda[s] and run lines into them...ships fast too.
heres the link and you can look thru, has setups for other gens too.

I made my own tank for around $80-85. If you want the material list and a picture email me.

I secure my generator to the pickup bed with carriage bolts. But then moved it from the center to the driver side (blocked my view while hooking)and spot welded it in a few places. It'll a mans task for anyone to swipe it now. DRAWBACK......Heck, now I can't get it out. Give a little-take a little, I'll worry about that later..
