Winter travel to warmer climates

Hi All,


I'm finally going to haul my 08 Montana to Florida this coming January. I am curious about how to prepare rv. Normally we are stored on our seasonal campsite, but I will be pulling it off to make it more accessible for January. After I winterize it and bring slides, etc in, the last thing I do is switch the battery switch to bypass. I was told this leaves the CO2 detector on and will drain battery. I will disconnect it to be safe. When I connect to trailer to move it, should bypass switch be on for battery? Plug in to truck and go? Anything else needed for hauling? Do you run fridge on propane while traveling or leave propane off all together? Only turn on if stopping for night for heat? I plan to leave water tanks empty and tote some gallon jugs in shower for toilet. Such simple things, but... I have had wheel bearings packed, brakes checked and 5 new tires. All lights are functional and truck has been checked to charge battery when connected and running. Need to check battery condition, but I have a booster battery if needed for jacks. My next step is trying to make sure all cargo will be secured for travel. One thing I'm not looking forward to is the crazy drivers that don't respect other drivers, especially hauling a big rig.

All I can tell you is what we do and some will disagree. We had an older Montana and on those the loom that holds the gas line etc. runs right near the tires and a blowout took ours out so we don't travel with the propane on. Our fridge has been turned off for 12 hours on a 100 degree day in AZ and still was plenty cool when we stopped for the night. We usually travel with our water tank 1/3 full because the rig rides better that way and we have water for the night. If I was leaving in January I'd leave the rig winterized until I got out of freezing weather and then put water in and use it. When you get ready to hook up, hook up the battery and turn the battery shut off to the normal position so your truck can charge the battery going down the road.

We still have RV antifreeze in fresh water tank from initial delivery. We've always been hooked to campground supply. I guess I need to figure out how to flush that out so I'll be ready for water at some point. Some things will be learned as we go

We travel a great deal. For what it is worth we rarely have a negative experience with a crazy driver.. we just finished a six week road trip, Va,WVa, NC,SC, Ohio, Michigan, Ga, no irritating drivers. Heading for Fl end of October, see you on the road.
