RVG Winter 2006-07 Will you be there?

I'm feeling sad that we will not make the Fall Rally but we'll be too far west to make it back. So in order to get a "MOC fix", I want to start a thread on this winter. Steve and I will be at the Bentsen Palms Village in Mission from November through March. This will be our first winter on the road away from family, so I am hoping to find some friends for Mexican Train dominos, crafting, and perhaps even...a meal out???? So who's heading to RVG this winter?
For Glenn..or wherever you may be...

Al & Carol,
We're actually in Harrison, Arkansas about 30 miles south of Branson, Mo. on Hwy 65. We'll be in Branson for a week starting 7-4-06, couldn't get a site at the Park we chose before that due to the holiday. Travel is good, weather is warm, two AC's are great, all is well in our world. After Branson and a visit with Karen's dad in the Lake of the Ozarks area were working our way over and up to Niagra Falls and then on to New England for another visit with our daughter before heading back down to the RGV.

Since we may be coming to the Rio Grande Valley in a couple years when we retire, am curious what the wood shop is for? Do you make things to sell, repair picnic tables or chop wood for fires? Just curious!

Al and Nita,

The guys go down there and make ALL kinds of neat stuff! Shelves for units, doors for units, one guy last year was making a DOLL HOUSE for his grandkids (well, think it was for his grandkids).

Many of the campgrounds also offer, craft rooms (wood carvers, sewing classes, beading classes, etc etc etc.

They also offer entertainment, blue grass pickin sessions, meals, ice cream socials, Saturday morning donuts, just as a few of the things offered.

It is a totally different kind of "camping" and RV life. I am sure it is the same in Florida and Arizona, but I was totally amazed at Winter Texan's. THEY DON'T SIT STILL!! Biking, hiking, birding, crafts, trips, meals, shoot, some of em never get to the pool, they are too busy doing all the other stuff.

But, if you desire, you can just sit in the shade and read a book (many of the campgrounds also have computer labs and small lending libraries).

Top all this off with really nice people, goodness, it sure is special.

Carol

It's like Carol says. The management [owners] set up a fairly complete woodshop for the use of the guests. There were some pictures of projects on the BPV site. There is no restriction on what the guests build as far as I know. Rocking chairs were repaired, rigs were repaired or had shelves or other modifications built, PVC bicycle racks made, and firewood was turned into carvings. The users supplied the materials needed for their project; wood, finish, sandpaper, special tools, etc., and the shop supplied most of the tools. Tools are not loaned out for use beyond the immediate shop area. There was no charge for using the shop last year, and I haven't been told of one being put in place this year.
The dollhouse was for a granddaughter and was constructed from scratch, including individualy made shingles for the roof.

We may want to become WT's instead of FSB's.
