Cooking for Quartzsite

We are attending the Quartzsite Rally in January 2013! We can't wait! However, tonight I am beginning the menu planning and realized I need some help. I have boondocked before so I am familiar with the concept of cooking in the boonies. My creative juices are NOT flowing and my biggest set back is I am not sure what will and what will NOT be available. Can anyone offer suggestions for recipes, types of foods that have worked well for boondocking and where have you grocery shopped if necessary.

We will also be traveling with my parents following us and they like to eat out. So what types of restaurants, if any, are available?

Thanks for all of your help!

There are two smallish markets in Quartzsite where you can get most of the essentials. They do tend to be pricey and run out of product due to the crowds while we are there. 25 miles away in Parker there are two major grocery stores - Safeway and Wal-Mart. There are also grocery stores in Blythe. You won;t have too much trouble getting groceries while camped in Q. Fine dining is another story. Don't expect too much. There are a lot of fast food type places and a handful of sit down restaurants (not white linen tablecloth places though). All of them are adequate at best, and due the crowds in town during the RV show, horribly overcrowded. Unless you eat before 3:30 PM expect a couple of hours wait at the more popular places.

Our experience has been the finest food in Quartzsite is found at the MOC Circle. Frequently the "appetizers" found at Happy Hour surpass anything to be found in town.

Thank you so much for the amazing information Carl n Susan! You were more informative than any website we could find. This is my first rally...so I now feel the pressure to come up with some appetizer that would be 'fine dining'...since Mini Hot Dogs in BBQ sauce doesn't qualify!

I am looking forward to this trip. Will you both be there???

There is a Bashas grocery in Parker too. Lake Havasu City is just a few more miles north of there and has most of the major stores.

WOW! That is incredible! We are looking forward to hearing everyone's stories about their travels. We will be arriving on the 17th so with the RV show going on we may not be in the circle but we will be there. Looking forward to meeting everyone!
