They call Chicago the Windy City? NOT!!!!!
The RGV beats Chicago by a mile! It is soooo windy here in Mission, with gusts to 45 mph, I am scared we will blow away. Our awning is strapped and tied, our sun screens are tied and anchored, we are hanging on here! We are facing South to North. Big mistake. The south winds get us straight thru from pin to ladder. Next year we will pick a lot that sits East to West, with our door on the North side.
I have never felt so much wind - every day. Is this place always this windy?

The wind is one reason we are not in the S.W this year.Don't think we had our awning down for 1 week in Arizona last year and we wre still finding Az dust in the camper.

Many people here in the RGV think that a lot that faces north is the bestest and even a selling point, they print it up as such when they are selling their lots.
We currently sit nose due north and are ok with it.
Anyway, it is windy here, yepper, it keeps the bugs away and if it is hot we are always happy to have it windy. It is part of the "atmostphere" here.
That said, Sunday was pretty snarly. It was about the worst we can remember having here in 5 years.
I tell people who are asking about the RGV, with tongue in cheek, but only partly so, if you don't like wind, don't come here. If you want it warmer, go to Mexico!
If you get a true east to west lot, let us know how it is, wind and wiggle wise.

Spent January in Mission at Oleander Acres with N-S lot with pin to the So. Yup wind blew most days starting about 11 and quitting(letting up) about 4 Neighbor lost his awning just as he was going to start to put it up. Next year we have an E-W lot with door facing N. Hope we can put the awning out, but won't risk losing it. There always seemed to be the smell of dust in the air except for the two days it rained and then the air wasn't that fresh. It still was better than the below zero weather in Northern Wisconsin.

You are correct about the winds in South Texas. My home for many years was between Corpus Christi and Laredo about 100 miles north of where you are. I did a search and found the average wind speed for Corpus Christi is 12.3 MPH, for Brownsville is 11.3 MPH. The great windy city of Chicago average has an 10.3 MPH.
These speeds appear to be low but take into consideration this is 24/365 for the past 50 years.

Well we made it thru the night. There were a few flaps that I just wasn't sure the awnong would hold. Woke up today and it all there - a little looser ( The awning buddys) But they held up well. That was about 34 hours of straight hi winds going both ways - N & S. I feel like a veteran now!

Jan/Feb 2006 we had nearly constant wind in Mission. We have some wind today in Arizona but have had very little wind overall in the time we've been in Arizona (since 12/15/07). I'm not sure if this is an unusual year or if last year being windy was unusual. Locals say very little wind is the norm.

We're here at Mission West Resort in Mission TX. and we're on an east west lot with our door facing north and it's better for some of the winds but when the wind comes out of the north it will "rock" you. Also we don't need the awning out. The sun is on the south side.

Having been in Texas for lots and lots of years, this seems to have been the most wind that most of us can remember in many, many years.

We are new to the list, just to add my comments to the RGV it is a nice place to visit, we have friends that have a home there and we go and stay for a week once a month.. It is too dusty and dirty down there. We stay in Aransas Pass and this is our 2nd year and it is windy sometimes but not all the dust. We have friends down there that we like to visit and then we like to go to the Donn-Wes flea market.
Looking forward to coming back next year.

We are at Bentsen Grove in Mission on an E-W lot with the door on the south. The original reason was so we could use the awning to shade the rig from the afternoon sun. That is less of an issue with this rig but it probably helps some.
My awning has been out all winter. It is tied down with 2500# test ratchet straps, there are flapper stoppers all along both sides and we have a sun screen anchored with 6 bungees. The sides of that are fastened with bungees to the ratchet straps. Finally we have an end cap on the west end. We pull a corner back when the wind is right out of the east.
Yeah, its windy and dusty but we like it for a lot of reasons and we will be right here next winter.

Last winter and spring seems worse than most years just like old dude said, and like Carol said it make's it nice, no bugs a nice little breeze from the coast.
You folk's that are complaining, you need to try living in Kansas for a week or two. Now one around here even walks straight, we have a built in LEAN.. That is from years and years of wind.
Several of our friends have awnings down and their screened in, with no problem. However they crank things down like David and Kathy. If you have a little breeze you need to plan for it and all will be OK...
