Final Repair/Fix for the 6.0

After having so many problems with the F-350 and it looking like the oil cooler was starting to plug again I made a final fix to the problems we’ve had that has plagued us over the last few years.

I sold the F-350 and purchased a 2011 6.6 GMC Duramax Diesel dually with the Allison transmission all in the same day. We’re still learning what all the features are but hope to get several years of much better service from it than what we’ve had in the past.

I just noticed late last night that it even has the exhaust brake on it along with the tow/haul feature. We hope to get a hitch installed soon and be back into a normal camping/traveling mode in the near future.

You mean the F-350 was giving you problems with ONLY 383,000+ miles?! Shameful!

Good deal, Bill. I hope the truck serves you well and gets that Montana back on the road for whatever camping adventure you and the family elect to pursue!

Yep you will love the Duramax/Allison,I have had 2 and both were/are great trucks, and what is good for you is that in 2011 they bumped up the HP/Torque that year

I'm on my 2nd D'max, and have had very good luck with them. I'm sure you will, too. Welcome to the dark side.

I just traded off my 06 F350 with a 6.0 for a 2015 Ford F350 Platinum. This truck is loaded with options. It has 400 hp and 800 ft lbs of torque. Pulls the Montana with ease. It is a pleasure to drive it and we look forward to many miles of traveling.

I agree with the others about the exhaust brake. I love it. I went up thru Utah and Wyoming to Calgary and Saskatoon last summer. I think I had to use the brakes on maybe 2 hills the whole trip. And the power is almost as good - I use cruise control and it shifts to keep the speed, tho it drops 2-3 before accelerating and then overshoots by 2-3. But still am happy.

Same here. I put around $10k Into my 6.0 PSD before throwing in the towel and moving to a Dmax in 2013. I honestly never had a trip with the 6.0 that didn't involve overheating, a hose blowing, FICM issue etc. injector woes and fuel filters that needed changing like underwear.

I have no regrets since going GMC. I think all of the big three have a great product right now. Chevy has the strongest dealer near me so it was a no brainier to stick with them.
