Lowering running boards

We have a 2008 F-350 with factory installed running boards. We love the truck but find it's a little tall to step into, especially for my wife. Has anyone out there in MOC-land lowered their running boards, Ford or otherwise? Initial inspection looks to me like a simple mod by making extended mounting brackets. I'm thinking about 3" should do it. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kevin

Mary uses a small folding step stool tied to the the armrest with a dog leash. Cheap and works well for her. She just folds it up and it's a footrest in the cab. I looked at powered steps, but they are pretty expensive.

Like you seen most are on with just a steel plate bracket. I would run it past a welding shop and see what they woudl charge for longer brackets. Shouldn't be a lot since they are usually pretty basic steel plates with holes in them.

Our friends had a F350 and also used a folding step stool.

X3 on the folding step stool. Have used it for my sister (broken back) and Joyce occasionally uses it. When not in use I keep it next to my tool box in the bed of the truck because I need it to get into the bottom or middle of the tool box over the high bed rails.

I installed the fold up running boards on my 2010 F350. They drop down lower and enabled my mother to get in and out. they don't collect the snow and mud. A little pricey, I nstalled them my self. will do it again
