That is not true at all. Go to a lot and crawl under any new truck. You will see it is not under coated. GM uses a hot wax dip on their frame, but it is not undercoating, and will rust in places the wax doesn't cover or gets scrapped off. You will also see that none of the painted parts (truck bed, cab, etc.)are undercoated either.

Call it what you want, maybe "undercoating" was a poor choice of words. Here's a verbatim statement from a Chevy truck brochure:
"Chevrolet vehicles are designed and built to resist corrosion. All body and sheet metal are warranted for rust through corrosion for six years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Application of additional rust prohibiting materials is not required under the corrosion coverage and none is recommended."
So whatever they are doing, it's enough.

Re-read that statement carefully and note the words "rust through corrosion". That means it has to actually rust through the metal (forming a hole) before it is covered by their 100,000 or six year warranty. If it hasn't penetrated the metal to form a hole, it is not covered. Again, I invite you to crawl under a truck (as I have done countless times) that is 4 or 5 years old and you will see rust, especially if the truck is used in a state that uses road salt, in which case you will see rust in as little as one year. But since it is surface rust, it is not covered by the warranty.

x2 What Tom said. I've had many vehicles in my fleet at work that showed that "cauliflower head" of rust. But, because it had not rusted all the way through the claim was denied by GM.

Okay Pat... what are you "ewwwwwing" about? Rust, used oil, kerosene, planting potatoes at night (under a full moon), road salts, dust sticking to used oil, messy undercoatings or all of the above?

Well take your pick, smartypants. 
Mostly it's the used motor oil.
I have a friend who is a lapidary, and he has a huge saw that he cuts rocks with. You're supposed to use oil (clean) as a lubricant for the blade, but there are all sorts of things he's been told are "just fine" to use and that are free or cheap. Like old electric transformer oil, which you can get by the barrel from your local utility company; of course its PCB-free... Or automotive antifreeze; can you imagine working in an enclosed space full of antifreeze mist? Gasp!
So... eeeewwwww.....

did that with my 7.3 powerstroke, $1700. DOLLARS to replace high pressure oil pump, oil, filter, fuel filter, new water/fuel seperator valve.

last weekend we were heading out to grand lake in oklahoma and my truck let go and lost 10qts of oil it was my high pressure oil pump it went out. and it undercoated everything with oil... lol. like they were talking about but mine was not on purpose and cost me 17oo dollars to fix.

Oh, I get it! Being the oil was hot, I bet it penetrated quite well. Sorry to hear about your misfortune though.
