Water Heater ?

We just took Monty out of storage and havent connected the water lines or filled the tanks yet. My D.W. was trying to find the switch for the ceiling fan and turned on the gas switch for the water heater next to the battery check panel. She didnt notice the light was on and left the unit. Iwent in to get some things a few hours later and noticed the red light was on on the switch and turned it off. ?is did she damage the water heater or not. I would rather fix it if there is a problem now before we take our first trip of the year. Thanks Steve

don't think you'll have anything to worry about. The problems seem to arise when you turn the unit on electric and have no water in the tank. This fries the electric element but again no huge deal since you can p/u a new element at any Home Depot, Lowes etc. and they are not hard to change.

best thing to do is go ahead and fill it with water and give it a try. I'm betting it will fire right up with no problems.

You said no tanks were full yet. Does this include the hot water tank? If the HW tank was empty then there's a chance that the hot water element is toast. If I don't have the propane on, the water heater switch on (red lighted) and the electric element switch turned on, then my water heater element does work and keeps the water hot (while this is contrary to what racerjoe posted this is because some rigs might operate differently). I imagine if this is how your RV works the element needs replacing if it burned out. This happened to me when DW turned on the water heater with an empty water heater but the element did not burn out but I discovered it within minutes unlike yours over several hours.

Like Wingerphil mentions replacements are not too expensive and relatively easy to replace if you have the right tools. Just make sure you get an exact replacement (rating and dimensions).

X2. Trying it would be the easiest way to find out.
