New 07 GM'S

Got a good look at the new 07 GMC 2500HD with the Duramax and Allison. I was very suprised to see the truck setting at least 6 inches higher than my 02 model. I actually stood beside the truck and put my elbow straight out to rest on the bed rails, also noticed lots of clearance in the wheel wells. Both trucks I'm referring to are 4x4 and I'm wondering why the extra height this year. By the way, I liked the diference and the new truck at lot! Kinda drooling right now!

Steve,

I don't know about the "official" 07 but my 07 Classic is MUCH higher than my 1999 was. I was shocked, I can't really dry it off after washing it on the hood or the windshield and I'm a little over 6'2".

I guess GMC noticed that Ford and Dodge has been building tall 4x4s for quite a few years and decided to follow suit.

It's kind of nice to be sitting high while driving, but towing is another matter. How are you guys going to compensate for the height with your trailers?

Mac:

Your recently departed was the same body style as the new unit?
I'm about the same height as you, and my '04 is about the same as far as degree of difficulty when I go to wash and dry.
If you're seeing as much difference loaded, I'd check your adjustments hitchwise, etc. which I'm sure you've done already.

I've not even had a chance to hook up and tow yet, I'm planning on trying tomorrow if everything works out ok, I'll let you know then.

Click on my little signature pic and you will see that my unit sits pretty level. Montanas are made for high trucks. My last fiver had to have it's springs put on top of the axle to be pulled behind a tall 4x4 Ford.

I read the bed on the new GM HD's is 1.4" deeper than the current 07 classic. GM is not expecting any problem with clearance for 5th wheel towing.

Hopefully they didn't raise it up just to be like Ford/Dodge. I have owned both 1 ton GMs and 1 Ton Ford (currently a Ford), and I think I always liked about the GMs was the lower hieght. Make for loading and unloading much easier.

Tcorbitt, that was on of my reasons for getting the GM was I could reach over the side to get a shovel out whereas with the Dodge/Ford I could not.

Mudchief, I'm 5'9" and I can assure you I can't reach over the side rails and grab a shovel on the new 07! There are a couple things like my generator, that will be a problem lifting a little higher. However, this is not a big enough difference to keep me from purchasing another GMC in the future!

Just got to see one today at a local dealer. Most dealers don't have any yet. They do sit high in the rear. Don't know if we could get under the trailer or not. Gonna be close.
