Summer travels...
Looks like we will be able to put on a few more miles this summer without breaking the bank. Diesel price is down to 2.09 and still falling.
2 years ago we went from Florida to New York to California back to Indiana and back to Florida. At that time I felt I spent a small fortune on fuel.
Last summer we went from Florida to New York to the UP of Michigan. Down to Indiana and back again to Florida. We stayed a week in Nashville, 4 weeks in PA, 3 weeks in NY, A total of 5 weeks in Mich. and 5 weeks in Indiana. Well less than 1/2 the mileage of our Calif trip but more than twice the cost for diesel.
BTW- the last rime we paid 2.09 a gallon was back in the early spring of 2005.

We are also forming up our summer travels. we are way under our winter budget due to lower fuel cost and the weak economy although disastrous to many resulted in lower cost to us.

The fuel prices are good news for all of us. We are in the process of our annual budgeting and pre-paid reservations for our planned trips (strongly considering Jekyll Island or the Tampa, FL area in lieu of Topsail, FL for Thanksgiving but it is a very difficult decision). I assume since you all will be travelling more this summer, that we will have a stronger possibility of seeing you in Wytheville in August . Sorry, couldn't resist the opportunity for a free advertisement, but we are hopeful to see Rich, Glenn and families again this year. We cannot make it to NY because of school for the girls.

We have been planning our summer travel for over a year (including putting the money in the bank). Suanne has requested and received a 3 month leave of absence from the hospital and we are planning on going up to Banff and Jasper, over to the Northwest coast, back through Yellowstone, down through Colorado and then with a brief detour to Show Low (sp) before returning home. We have been very fortunate that the medical field has not experienced the same economic downturn. In fact, with 5 years at her current employment, they were almmost willing to bend over bacwards to let her have the time off rather than losing her completely.

We do have the escapee's rally booked the end of May in Missouri and will take in a trip to Branson and spend some time in that area. We are also booked for the G.L MOC rally end of July and of course the Fall rally in Goshen in September. We plan to spend more time camping with our local camping group in Ohio. We have a couple of MOC rallies we would like to go to...schedule permitting. We love our stick home and our local Northern Ohio Community, Family and friends and want to spend time there. There is just not enough months in the year.

We are leaving Michigan mid-April and taking a couple of months or so to finally get our trip to Mt Rushmore in. We are going by way of St Louis, Kansas City, Omaha, The Oregon Trail, Casper, WY then to Mt Rushmore area for the last couple of weeks in May. Then north to US-2 in ND and follow that through Duluth and the Upper Penninsula to home sometime in June. Then looking at GL Rally in late July and fall rally in Goshen. If Carol has her other knee replaced, it will be during the summer this time. Never again in the winter. We sure missed Florida.

Our Western trek got cut short last year, but I think I am glad with the decline in fuel prices. So we plan to head west in mid April to pick up all the Western States missing on our map. No hurry, may not get back until September.

We are going to the escapade at the end of May and then head west Hope to do Yellowstone and that area and then head for the black hills area. We will be back at Sadalia, Mo for our FCRV campvention the first part of July then move to Branson for a mini rally. Then maybe stop in the ST Louis area where my brother lives and then home.If the price of fuel stays around the price it is now.

East Coast, New England, New York, Penn, Fall Colors, Down thru midwest and into Texas for some down time and maybe AZ and So Cal for the winter. Travelling alot with my sister and BIL from Calif. Hope to see as many MOCers on the road as possible. This is our year for the east, (and my sisters last trip), hope the weather cooperates and we don't have to head to Canada to get cool. Sitting in one place for 5 months has helped replenish the travel fund. Will consider the different rallies as we move along. Planning on Goshen in the fall to have my suspension checked by MorRyde, just don't know when right now. Would like to do the Fall Rally again but not sure about timing.
We still need recommendations on what to see and where to go. We have logged everyones advice so far, sure appreciate the travel services of the MOCers, Many thanks to all of you who have given advice..... Keep em coming!!! PM me if you like....This way I won't have to pay a travel agent LOL!!!! I HAVE been known to buy lunch for other MOCers!!!!

Phil, you will be traveling through many Civil War sites, if that interests you. A while back, we started with Gettysburg and area and then south into Virginia following Lees return to VA. Many interesting sites and beautiful scenery along the way. Enjoy! - Jim

Well if the fuel stayes about where it's at now, we will be heading to South Dakota, and say HI to the Magnificent 4. then to Nebraska to viset a cousin that has not been seen in about 45 years.

Bingo, Not trying to influence your decision but our park offers a FREE Thanksgiving dinner to all registered guests. We are just a few miles from Tampa and even closer to the Gulf of Mexico.

Phil, if you go to Gettysburg, go during the summer season as the National Park Service has an extremely robust ranger program during that time. We stayed at Gettysburg RV Park (Nice) for 2 weeks and were able to attend all of the ranger programs we wanted. Day 1, 2, 3, Peach Orchard, Little Round Top, etc. Each ranger writes their own presentation and all were very good. There are seasoned rangers as well as lots of college students, mostly history majors. Chris had figured a day or two for the Civil War stuff and then plenty of time for sightseeing and shopping. After the first ranger program, she was hooked! There's a great little lunchroom if you like hot dogs, right downtown G'burg: Ernie's Texas Lunch. Yummy! Beautiful countryside for taking a drive and picnic. Lots of shops to browse through in downtown. If you stay at G'burg RV Park, be sure to follow their directions. You will go through a small housing development, but that is still MUCH better than towing through downtown and around the traffic circle! Have fun! We'll be in Harrisburg, PA visiting family 27 May-3 June and plan a day trip or two to get some Ernie's hotdogs!

We also will be heading out "sometime" in the next few months. Most likely will end up at Quantico for a few weeks to visit granddaughters, and of course their dad and mom.
Don't know what route you will be taking Glenn, but if your are in the neighborhood, Tom Sawyer's Mississippi River RV Park was a nice place for us to stay. When you pull in, your picture window will be about 50 yards or less from the Mighty Mississippi. Don't forget to visit the Elvis Museum.
Also, on I-40 in Crossville, TN is a CG called "Deer Run RV Resort." There is nothing in the area but the CG is beautiful, serene, and worth two days of rest.
Another place we stayed that we enjoyed for a few days was North Fork Resort in Front Royal. We just enjoyed wading in the stream, but if you have an inner tube (Not the built in kind) you can have even more fun.
If you have a mind to go into New England, be sure to try and stay at Fisherman's Memorial State Park, Rhode Island. We took a ride through there when visiting our son in Newport, RI, and we liked what we saw. I think Noneck stayed there this past year. It is only 20 miles from Newport, RI, and that is a must see city. Plan on a couple of days and spend the money for the mansion tour. Very interesting.
Happy trails!
Edited: Oh! And in Newport, go down to the warf around 11:00 a.m. and buy lobster for $8 each. Fire up the barbie and grill them. Delicious.

We are going to take our annual family trip (with kids, grandkids, in-laws, & friends) to Fun Valley Family RV Park outside of South Fork, CO in late June thru early July. Be there ~2 1/2 weeks.
And tentatively planning a trip to Yellowstone, Tetons, Moab, Monument Valley, and back to Fun Valley beginning the end of August for about a 3 week trip.
Try to slip in some shorter trips before, after, and in between.
Local diesel is at $1.97 now. Sure hope that holds out.
