Thinking about a new upgrade
Been thinking about a new upgrade, and want to see if anyone has done this. I have a 2005 3255RL, which has outside connections for both Sat/cable and Phone. They both terminate in the entertainment/computer cabinet. I would like to run both my satellite receiver and hook up to park cable when availble. This would allow me to watch satellite in the living room, and cable in the bedroom. I will never use the phone connection, as I use a cell phone instead. The outside phone connection is housed in a standard RV round housing. I can easily replace it with a coax housing, and run RG6 into the cabinet. I would replace the inside telephone plate with a coax plate. Sounds easy to me! Anyone try this before?

Mike,
We did not think we would ever use the phone connection either, UNTIL, we got to Donna Texas last year, and part of the "freebies" at the park we stayed in was FREE phone, local use, as long as the call did not go over 30 minutes.
Went out and purchased a phone, and plugged er in! Did use it quite a lot, for calling local businesses, reservations for day trips, and calling other Rver's in our park. Came in very useful.
I can tell you, that we NEVER would have imagined having a phone in our RV, say, 10, even 5 years ago! But, we were still doing weekends and vacations then. Going full time, or long times, like we do now, puts a different light on the subject of a phone!
In our travels last winter, we connected to the internet via cable, cell phone and standard phone (in and out of our rig). Like to leave our options open, and it has paid off.
Let us know what you decide on this improvement!
Cheers,
Carol

Tried to use my phone connection once when I went on a contract job but the internal connections were corroded. I have not repaired it yet.
I installed roof mount SAT antenna and run cables to one receiver and then T off the TV connection to each console. I then connected the cable and SAT to a co-ax switch at each console. So I can watch cable or SAT off the pushbuttons. I want to modify this with a dual LNB so I can have 2 SAT receivers.

We use our phone connection in Texas during the winter for a land line. Have you considered putting in a separate connection in your propane compartment and running the connector up into your tv compartment in the bedroom. We did that and have two receivers, one for the living room and one for the bedroom. The cable outlet is still available for use in both places.

I like this idea. Never thought about putting it in the propane compartment, which is right under the bedroom TV. I will consider this. I might also convert the telephone connect from a 4 pin to 8 pin connector so it can be used for either a phone or internet connection.

Mazeeff,
I added satellite connectors to my Mountaineer and left the existing cable and antenna connections intact. Here is a link to my website which shows how I did it. Hope this is helpful. http://www.geocities.com/fulltimedre...shinstall.html

Very nice job. These detailed instructions with pictures are very useful. I wish I had the patience to document my upgrades to the extent you did!

I have a King Dome type sat reciver and my unit came with cable connection (right by the phone). I put in a selector switch. Put my three sources into it and I'm able to watch sat. TV, cable TV or off the ant. for the local stations. I don't use the cable much because some places charge for it.
