There is a KOA near Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain that we have stayed at. It is not bad, but sites are mostly bare earth under pine trees. (We stayed there before we had a Montana, but I am pretty sure that most of their sites would take a Montana).

Check out the NY State Parks in that area.

There is a NY State Park near the KOA, but we did not see any "big rigs" in it. I think it is older and only has small sites; but by all means check it out, you never know, and things do change.

Hope you realize that most campgrounds are closed by October 15, some even sooner. A beautiful campground in Lake George is Ledgeview RV Park. However, they don't allow pets. It is fairly reasonable.

We just left North Pole Campground in Wilmington, NY, about 10 miles east of Lake Placid. We were very impressed with the large, heavily wooded sites (the tree branches were well-trimmed). It has good 50-amp service and cable tv. There is no wi-fi, but they offer high-speed internet over a cable modem at $5 / day.
It is currently not very crowded and was quiet during our stay. The only downside I would comment on is that the sites I saw were typically grass and dirt. Recent rain resulted in some mud, enough to be a cleanliness problem although not enough to cause a problem getting the trailer in or out.
Overall, we were very satisfied with that campground.
