My method in not very popular here but it works well and can be done in 10 minutes if you have a unit with a gravity fill port. I tilt the unit with the level up so that the drivers side is way low. Turn the water heater to bypass. Dump in 3 gallons of antifreeze into the fresh water tank. Turn on the pump and pump it through all fixtures until you see pink. Then turn the bypass off so a little goes to the water heater with the drain open and running pink. DONE.

It the spring, just run several tanks of fresh water through the system to flush out the antifreeze. There may be a little residue left ( that will clear up quickly with use) , but most of don't drink the tank water anyway.

Thanks to all responses. We had the same issue this year with our 2018 375FL. Was able to get some antifreeze thru all faucets, but not enough to suit us. Bought a separate AC operated pump as a winterizing back up for next year, but will try out suggestions in this thread for the RV pump. If all approaches fail, the back up will be to use the alternate pump, putting antifreeze theough the city water inlet (we are on city water 100%). I suspect the check valve is the culprit, and I wish I’d read this thread earlier!

Question

Can you add antifreeze to water lines in your Montana 5th wheel by using an external water pump connected to the fresh water line rather than using the water pump in the trailer? In other words, our trailer is parked permanently, using city water. We only use the trailer water pump to winterize. This year, we had the same problem others have (pump runs, but does not draw antifreeze - probably due to the check valve issue). In haste, I bought a back up 115V water pump, which then made me think — why not winterize using that pump connected to city water inlet vs dealing with sticky check valves? Please comment..!! Would appreciate your thoughts.

Greg,

An external pump can also be used to add antifreeze.

Check valve in winterizing plrt

I think my main problem getting the pump to prime from the winterizing port was a poor seal between the port and the hose going to the anti freeze jug. I need to work on this some more; I've had problems every time. I may install a winterizing kit like my last trailer had (no winterizing port); it has permanent connections to an intake line; never had a problem with it.

Attached is a drawing of my convenience center plumbing; your plumbing may not be the same.

I saw on your diagram that you’ve removed the check valve in the winterizing port. Do you leave that out permanently? If so, any issues?
