I have had two leak issues with pumps, both with hairline cracks difficult to see. Hopefully somebody can talk to the magnet issue, I cannot. Re the O ring, I would not reuse, I would call lippert and have them send a replacement. I have to say, with both tanks I replaced, (lippert provided at no cost), I did not have the dirt buildup you experienced.
