delamination - we think?

hi all - i am hoping for some help.

my father in law has a 2004 montana 3295rk - the rear kitchen and desk model --- its a great looking unit.

however this year while in florida - he noticed a bubble in the fibre glass - sounds a bit like delamination to me --- under the bedroom slide at the scoop part of the unit --- between the full body and the hitch area.

we are wondering if anyone has experienced the same or similar type problem and how it was handled --- if possible a location here in ontario or should it be sent back to the factory?

he maintains his trailer like there is no tomorrow and well the point of the bubble would be the section of stress and of course water may be an issue.

if you are able to help out - i would greatly appreciate it!!!!!

thanks

oh - in case its important, we live in southwestern ontario.

alex

If you are referring to the area behind the hitch, I do not think this would be delamination.

I'd take it to the nearest Keystone dealer just to see what they say it might be. Perhaps get an estimate. Then you can call Montana Customer Service for suggested solution and recommended repair shop. A factory trip may not be necessary.

If a digital camera is handy, a photo of the problem spot and send to Montana Customer service. Might just save you that first trip to the dealer.

Good luck. I have that model in a 2006. I am very happy with it.

If it is a bubble it probably is delamination. That can happen either because of water getting in there or it can happen if the glue on the backing was not properly applied or for some other reason it would not properly stick to the backing.

We had two bubbles on our 2001 2880RL but it was because our dealer had, at our request, caulked the bottom of the shower stall walls (that's a no-no). Condensation forms behind the shower walls because of the heat of the shower water, when it is cooler outside. By caulking the stall that water could not drain out so worked its way to the outside wall where it caused delamination.

All of the above is what I was told by Fox RV in Middlebury, IN, when we had the bubbles repaired.

Could you give us a better idea of where the bubble is? Is it on the vertical wall directly under the bedroom slide or a bit more aft or forward?

As genecurp said, a picture of the bubble might be helpful to Keystone. I'd call them first and tell them you are emailing or faxing a picture and they can tell you who to send it to.

Good luck. Let us know how this turns out.

Almost sounds like you are referring to the belly pan just in back of the hitch? If so, they tend to arc down a little between the fasteners because they are basically just sheets of single thickness plastic.
