We were thinking Hot Springs Area - lake Catherine looks nice. Arkansas State Park Website does have a good book on line system but lacks maps of park, that I could see.
THX!

Lake Ouachita and the Surrounding National Forest. We stay at Joplin campgrounds, but there are other nice choices. Hot Springs is nearby with the old bath houses and the Mid America Science Museum. It may sounds boring to some, but it's really interesting. If you do go there, Hickory Nut Mountain vista is a neat scenic view of some of the lake and area.

Call them - they'll answer your questions and book your site over the phone, if you want. Along with Bull Shoals (north central Ark), a great state park. If enjoy history, take the Hot Springs gangster tour/ museum- across the street from the Arlington Hotel.

Petit Jean State Park is a really nice park with paved pads and FHU. But pretty far removed from anything else.
We also enjoy the Hot Springs area.

I would agree that all the above suggestions are great! If you find yourself on the western side of Arkansas, along Hwy 71, I can recommend Corps of Engineers', Gillham Lake.

On the lake at Big Coon or On the river at Cossatot Reefs, both are great and are our weekend get-away sites.

If your going to stay near Hot Springs I strongly recommend Catherine's Landing! It may be a little pricy for some folks here but it is far nicer than the state parks. It also happens to be on the North side of the lake and much handier to the attractions in town. We will be staying there last week of March to take in the Horse Races.....
There are a couple of nice COE campgrounds around Greers Ferry Lake which is due North of Conway/Little Rock. May be further North than you were thinking but very nice lake and if you like Trout fishing JFK COE campground would be hard to beat.
South of Hot Springs is Murfreesboro where you can dig (and keep) for diamonds! You can't do that anywhere else in the world!
If you like Golf then about half way between Memphis and Little Rock is Village Creek state park which has a barely used premier golf course. You can combine fishing on the two lakes with golf to stay busy all week.... Let me know I will join you for either LOL....

Golf out fishing in - will holler if heading that way. Wife wants to hit some rallies - have to work into schedule.

Check out Montana Rovers website. They have a rally scheduled for Lake Catherine State park in April.
